Veteran Nigerian rapper Olusegun Osaniyi, better known as Lord of Ajasa, has officially become a United States citizen.

The trailblazing Yoruba rapper broke the news on Instagram, sharing videos and photos of the moment with his wife, Funmi. In one clip, he proudly holds up his US citizenship certificate against the backdrop of the American flag and addresses his fans directly: “My fans, I’m now a US citizen; you all should know. This is my new country’s flag. I’m now fighting for my new country.”

He also posted a photo of himself and his wife waving the American flag, alongside another update simply captioned “Thank You America.”

Lord of Ajasa rose to prominence in the early 2000s and is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of mainstream Yoruba rap in Nigeria. Hits such as “Ma Yi Lo,” “Le Fenu So,” and “Esha Lo Bade” helped define the sound of the era, while collaborations with artists including 9ice, Olamide, and the late Da Grin cemented his influence on the Nigerian music scene.
