Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Rotimi Akeredolu has been re-elected as Governor of Ondo State following a resounding victory in the Saturday poll.
Akeredolu, a sitting governor, was reelected having promised during his campaign to provide a composed and focused leadership marked by economic growth and improved security for people in the state.
The former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, en route victory, swept aside oppositions by winning 15 of the 18 local governments.
He polled 292,830 votes, while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede, garnered 195,791 votes and coming in distant third position is the incumbent deputy governor of the state, Agoola Ajayi of the Zenith Labour Party who polled total votes of 69,127.

Chief Returning Officer for the election, Professor Olayinka, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, announced the winner on Sunday at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Akure, which doubles as the final collation centre.
“Having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes, I hereby declare Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu of the APC as the winner, and he is hereby returned elected,” Olayinka announced.
In 2016, Akeredolu with Ajayi as his running mate had defeated PDP’s Jegede to win his first term as governor of Ondo State.
