Multiple award-winning high school, Iganmode Grammar School, Ota has again added another academy gold to their towering shelf of trophies and laurels as the revered citadel of quality education again won the 2022/23 Steno Memorial Foundation State-Wide Quiz Competition.
The Otta premier school competed against fellow top schools across the state to clinch the coveted trophy and the cash reward among other mouthwatering prizes.
Finalists and Winners
Eight schools participated in the final stage of the 2022/23 edition of the annual competition as two schools represented each of the four divisions in the state.
The schools are;
Ogunlesi Model Secondary School, Sagamu and Remo Secondary School, Sagamu from Remo Division
St. Anthony’s Grammar School, Esure, Ijebu-Imusin and Ijebu Muslim College, Ijebu-Ode from Ijebu Division
Yewa College Ilaro and Iganmode Grammar School Otta from Yewa Division
Abeokuta Grammar School, Abeokuta and Akin Ogunpola Grammar School Ewekoro represented the Egba Division of the state.
The State finals, held at the Anglican Girls Grammar School, Ijebu Ode on Wednesday 21st June 2023, was an oral quiz covering Mathematics, English Studies and General Knowledge/ Current Affairs.
Iganmode Grammar School, Ado Odo Ota local government from Yewa-Awori Division, came first after defeating other competing schools in the final stage.
Ogunlesi Model Secondary School, Sagamu from Sagamu local government – Remo Division took the second position while Akin Ogunpola Model College from Ewekoro local government – Egba Division, came third.
Rewards
The winners of the 2022/23 Steno Memorial Foundation Ogun State-Wide Quiz Competition were rewarded with prizes as follows
First position: Iganmode Grammar School went home with a giant trophy. The pupils were also splashed with Scholarship awards throughout their University education, a new Lenovo laptop for each of the two students that represented the school, cash gifts and packages of different items.
Second position – Ogunlesi Model Secondary School – Ipad, cash gifts, and packages of different items were given to the two students that represented the school.
Third position – Akin Ogunpola Model College students went home with GSM mobile phones and packages of different items.
Principal Reacts:
The school principal, Alhaji Ismail Olayinka Salako in a chat with newsheadline247, described the pupils’ outstanding performance during the contest as a result of “the school teachers’ unending commitment and their meticulous efforts in the development of the students for themselves and the betterment of the society.”
“We will not relent in our efforts to sustain the school’s rich history of academic excellence as well as our determination to keep churning out personalities that will add value to the community and as well as the country at large,” Mr Salako said.
