Rotary Club of Ikeja Township Adopts Community Primary School, Awards Scholarship to Pupil
The Rotary Club of Ikeja Township on November 19, 2025, formally adopted Community Primary School, Bioyin, as its first Rotakid School, marking a major milestone in the club’s growing commitment to education and youth development in Lagos.
The adoption was announced during the school’s annual inter-house sports competition, where the club also served as grand patron of the event.
The ceremony featured a colourful display of activities, including a march past, track races, novelty games, and dance contests involving pupils, teachers, and parents. Cash prizes were awarded to the top three dancers among the pupils, while outstanding students from Primary 1 to Primary 6 received house banners, trophies and medals.

One of the event’s most emotional highlights was the presentation of a full primary-school scholarship to Primary 3 pupil Fatoye Amos Olushayo, an orphan being raised by his grandmother. The scholarship, sponsored by the United President of the club, Rtn. Ariyike Olukayode Elegbede, covers tuition and essential learning needs for the remainder of his primary education. The touching moment drew applause from parents, teachers, and guests.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rotary Club Vice President and President-Elect, Rtn. Victor Ojelabi, praised the dedication of teachers, the support of parents, and the enthusiasm shown by the pupils. He reaffirmed the club’s commitment to education, health and youth development, adding that the adoption was only the beginning of a long-term partnership.
As part of the adoption programme, the club announced plans to donate desks and chairs for teachers and to construct a drainage system to tackle frequent flooding within the school premises—an issue identified during its assessment of the school’s urgent infrastructure needs.

At the close of the event, the school management expressed deep appreciation to the Rotary Club of Ikeja Township for its support. They particularly highlighted the scholarship awarded to Fatoye as an uplifting and unexpected gesture that offers renewed hope and opportunity for vulnerable pupils.
