Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, has formally assumed office as the new Chairman of the Committee of State Commissioners of Education in Nigeria (COSCEN) following his takeover of the newly commissioned National Secretariat in Abuja.

The handover ceremony, held at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre (DRC) in Jahi, Abuja, was attended by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa; the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad; the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Aisha Garba; and commissioners from across the federation.

Expressing his gratitude on his verified Facebook page, Olohungbebe acknowledged the widespread support his emergence has generated.

“I deeply appreciate the overwhelming support and kind messages following my emergence as Chairman of the Committee of State Commissioners of Education in Nigeria (COSCEN),” he said.

He also thanked Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his steadfast commitment to strengthening education outcomes both in the state and nationally.

“My profound gratitude goes to His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his unwavering support for education and for consistently championing reforms that strengthen learning outcomes in Kwara and across Nigeria.”

Olohungbebe described the new secretariat as a symbol of collective effort and unified direction for education policy across the country.

“This office stands as a symbol of unity, collaboration, and shared purpose. It will serve as a national hub for policy dialogue, inter-state learning, and stronger coordination between federal and state education systems.”

He emphasised that the committee will continue to drive reforms that uplift schools, empower teachers, and secure a better future for Nigerian children.

Dr. Olohungbebe now officially serves as the Chairman of COSCEN while continuing his role as Kwara State’s Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development. Read More
