FG Declares Christmas, Boxing Day, New Year Public Holidays
The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, December 25 and Thursday, December 26, 2025, as well as Thursday, January 1, 2026, as public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
According to the statement, the holidays are in line with the government’s tradition of allowing Nigerians to celebrate the festive season in unity and reflection.
Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to reflect on the core values of love, peace, humility and sacrifice symbolised by the birth of Jesus Christ, while also using the season to promote national cohesion.
The minister called on citizens, regardless of religion, ethnicity or political affiliation, to pray for peace, improved security and sustained national development.
He further advised Nigerians to remain law-abiding and security-conscious throughout the festive period.
“The Christmas season and the New Year present an opportunity for Nigerians to strengthen the bonds of unity, show compassion to one another, and renew our collective commitment to nation-building,” Tunji-Ojo said.
He concluded by wishing Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Read More
