Sanwo-Olu Cancels 2025 Greater Lagos Fiesta, Urges Lagosians to Pray for Nigeria
The Lagos State Government has officially announced the cancellation of the 2025 Greater Lagos Fiesta, earlier scheduled to hold on December 31, 2025.
The decision was made public on Tuesday through a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.
According to the statement, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who approved the cancellation, directed that Lagosians should instead use the day to engage in personal prayers for Nigeria, Lagos State, and its people.
Akosile noted that the governor encouraged residents to pray for the state’s continued peace, stability, and development.
“Let us all pray for our continued prosperity, leadership, peace, productivity, and our continued general well-being,” Akosile wrote.
In a separate New Year message, Governor Sanwo-Olu extended warm wishes to Lagosians as they prepare to usher in 2026, expressing optimism about the prospects of the coming year.
The governor assured residents that his administration remains committed to deepening governance reforms and delivering tangible progress across the state.
“On behalf of my family, I wish every resident of our dear State a happy and prosperous new year. I want to assure you all that 2026 will be a better year for us in the State, as our administration is determined to work twice as hard to deliver the goods for the residents of the state,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The Greater Lagos Fiesta is one of the state’s flagship end-of-year entertainment events, traditionally held across multiple locations to usher in the New Year. Its cancellation marks a significant shift in tone, reflecting the government’s call for reflection, unity, and spiritual commitment as Lagosians head into the new year. Read More
