Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, will on Thursday lead the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, to inaugurate the commencement of academic activities at Minaret University, Ikirun, a faith-based private institution owned by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
The event will also feature the investiture of the institution’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul Rahman Abdullah, marking a major milestone in the university’s take-off.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Media Lead of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Nigeria, Dr Qasim Akinreti, who described the institution as a university with a strong global reputation for promoting peace, tolerance and academic excellence.
According to the statement, Governor Adeleke, alongside the President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, the Sultan of Sokoto, and the Ooni of Ife, will formally declare the commencement of the university’s academic session.
The statement further noted that the Amir of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Nigeria and Chancellor of Minaret University, Barrister Alatoye Azeez Folorunso, will officially present Professor Abdullah to the academic community and residents of Ikirun.
“Minaret University, Ikirun, was among the new private universities granted licences by the Federal Government last year,” the statement said, adding that the institution has expanded the list of private universities in Osun State and Nigeria at large.
The university’s launch is expected to further strengthen faith-based education, interfaith harmony and access to quality tertiary education in the South-West region.
