PRP Clears Donald Duke, Two Others Ahead of Presidential Primaries

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has cleared former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, alongside two other aspirants to contest in its presidential primaries scheduled for Monday, May 25, as the party intensifies preparations ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Also cleared by the party are renowned economist, Dr Nnaoke Ufere from Abia State, and former African Action Congress presidential candidate, Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley from Edo State.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the National Publicity Secretary of the PRP, Muhammed Ishaq, who disclosed that all three aspirants have agreed to subject their ambitions to a transparent democratic process during the party’s nationwide primaries.

“The three cleared presidential aspirants of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) have convened and unanimously agreed to submit their aspirations to the will of our party members during the upcoming primaries scheduled for May 25 across all parts of the country,” Ishaq stated.

He described the aspirants’ decision as a demonstration of the party’s commitment to internal democracy, unity and consensus-building ahead of the elections.

According to him, the PRP remains proud of the quality and democratic disposition of its aspirants, stressing that their conduct has further strengthened the image and credibility of the party.

“The PRP takes pride in the calibre of its aspirants, whose dedication to democratic principles and commitment to teamwork have further strengthened our party,” he said.

Ishaq added that the party is determined to conduct transparent, credible and fair primaries across all elective positions, noting that over 260 aspirants are expected to participate in various contests nationwide, especially in areas where consensus arrangements fail.

“We are committed to conducting credible, transparent, and free primaries, involving over 260 aspirants competing for various elective offices, especially in instances where consensus is not achievable.

“The PRP remains steadfast in its resolve to uphold democratic values and ensure a fair process for all aspirants and party members,” he added.
