Senator Gbenga Daniel received a thunderous welcome at Ojude Oba 2026 as thousands of Ijebu sons and daughters celebrated his legislative achievements, developmental projects and contributions to Ogun East.

Why Thousands Stood Up for Gbenga Daniel at Ojude Oba 2026
The arrival of Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel at the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival was one of the most remarkable moments of the cultural celebration as thousands of sons and daughters of Ijebuland rose to their feet in a spontaneous show of admiration and affection for the former Ogun State governor and current Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District.
As he made his way into the Ojude Oba Pavilion in Ijebu Ode, waves of applause swept through the arena while chants of “OGD! OGD! OGD!” echoed from every corner of the venue. The thunderous reception momentarily transformed the festival grounds into a carnival of appreciation, reflecting the deep connection between the veteran politician and the people he represents.
The overwhelming welcome underscored what many observers described as Senator Daniel’s enduring popularity and grassroots appeal across Ijebuland. For many attendees, the reception was not merely for a politician but for a leader whose impact is visible in both legislative accomplishments and developmental projects spread across Ogun East.
Among those who paid glowing tributes to the senator was the President of Tobalase Gbogbo Obirin Obalofin Akile Ijebu, Iyalode Afolashade Kasali, who described him as a worthy son of Ijebuland and a leader whose humility and compassion continue to endear him to the people.
“Otunba Gbenga Daniel represents the kind of child every parent dreams of raising,” she said. “He is not only a distinguished Nigerian but also one of the few public figures whose character, integrity and service inspire confidence. He treats everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of status, and his love for the people of Ogun East is evident in everything he does. On behalf of our Tobalase Obalofin group, we celebrate him as a father figure and pray that God grants him the desires of his heart.”
For many constituents, the loud ovation that greeted the senator was rooted in a growing perception that he has delivered tangible results since assuming office in the Senate. While many first-term lawmakers spend years adjusting to legislative procedures, Daniel quickly established himself as one of the most active voices in the National Assembly.
In less than three years, he has sponsored 16 bills and moved four major motions, placing him among the most productive lawmakers in the 10th Senate. His legislative portfolio spans regional development, education, healthcare, constitutional reforms and economic empowerment.
One of his most celebrated achievements remains the South-West Development Commission Bill, a landmark legislation that secured presidential assent and established a framework for coordinated federal intervention across the South-West region. The law is expected to accelerate infrastructure development, tackle erosion challenges and unlock greater federal investment opportunities for the region.
Political observers have described the legislation as a generational achievement capable of reshaping development planning across the South-West for decades to come.
Daniel has also championed legislation aimed at strengthening education and healthcare infrastructure in Ogun East. His sponsorship of bills relating to aviation education, Tai Solarin University and the proposed Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode reflects a broader vision of transforming the district into a hub for learning, healthcare and economic growth.
Beyond legislative work, the senator’s footprints are visible across communities in Ogun East through numerous facilitated projects. Road construction and rehabilitation projects, rural electrification initiatives, transformer distribution, solar-powered street lighting installations and the development of the Abigi Naval Base have become notable symbols of his tenure.
From Sagamu to Ijebu Ode, Ijebu East, Odogbolu, Ago-Iwoye and other communities, residents point to ongoing and completed infrastructure projects as evidence of active representation. The rehabilitation of major roads, installation of solar lights and support for local economic activities have contributed to a perception that Ogun East is experiencing sustained federal presence.
His interventions have also extended beyond infrastructure. Through the Gateway Front Foundation, thousands of residents have benefited from free medical outreach programmes, while market women and small-scale traders have received interest-free loans designed to support local businesses and stimulate economic growth.
The senator has equally demonstrated responsiveness to community concerns through legislative advocacy. He successfully moved a motion seeking urgent federal intervention in recurring flooding incidents affecting parts of Ogun East and other areas of the country. He also brought national attention to concerns raised by residents of Apuren Community regarding allegations of military encroachment, ensuring the matter received legislative scrutiny.
Perhaps one of the most ambitious initiatives associated with his tenure is the proposed constitutional amendment seeking the creation of a new state from the old Ijebu Province. Supporters view the proposal as a historic step toward addressing long-standing aspirations for greater political representation and economic advancement for the people of Ijebuland and Remoland.
For many residents gathered at Ojude Oba 2026, these achievements provided context for the extraordinary reception that greeted the senator’s arrival.
“People respond to what they can see and feel,” a festival attendee, who identifies himself as Rasheed remarked. “The cheers were not organised. They came naturally because many believe OGD has justified the confidence reposed in him. His projects are visible, his voice is heard in Abuja and his impact is being felt across Ogun East.”
Another attendee described the reception as a reflection of public appreciation rather than politics.
“Leadership is about service, and when people believe they are being served, they show gratitude. What happened today at Ojude Oba was gratitude in its purest form,” she said.

As the celebrations continued and the chants of “OGD” reverberated across the pavilion, one message appeared unmistakably clear: Senator Gbenga Daniel remains one of the most influential political figures in Ijebuland, with a level of grassroots acceptance that continues to resonate strongly among the people he represents.
