Amaechi Accepts VP Slot as Atiku Finalises ADC Presidential Ticket

Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has selected former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, as his running mate ahead of the next general election.

The development was confirmed on Saturday by the immediate past chairman of the ADC in Rivers State, Sampson Leader, in an interview with Newsheadline247.

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, had earlier contested the party’s presidential primary but was defeated by Atiku in the race for the ADC ticket.

Before the primary election, Amaechi had publicly stated that he did not purchase the party’s presidential nomination form with the intention of settling for the vice-presidential position.

The former minister also rejected the outcome of the primary election, amid allegations by some aggrieved party members that the process was manipulated in favour of Atiku.

However, despite the controversy that followed the primary, indications suggest that both politicians have now reached a common ground as the party prepares for the presidential contest.

When asked whether Amaechi had accepted the vice-presidential nomination, Sampson Leader responded in the affirmative, simply stating, “Yes.”

The announcement is expected to strengthen the ADC’s campaign structure as the party positions itself ahead of the forthcoming presidential election.
