Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has expressed confidence that incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji will emerge victorious in Saturday’s governorship election, despite belonging to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fayose made the declaration shortly after casting his vote at Polling Unit 1 in Afao-Ekiti, located in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking with journalists at the polling unit, the former governor predicted an overwhelming victory for Oyebanji, who is seeking a second term in office on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Oyebanji has already won the election,” Fayose said.
The PDP stalwart, who served as governor between 2003 and 2006 and again from 2014 to 2018, attributed his prediction to what he described as the prevailing mood among Ekiti residents and the political atmosphere across the state.
“If you look at the state of things in the state and the body language of the people, I am predicting an overwhelming victory for him,” he added.
Fayose’s endorsement of Oyebanji further underscores his continued support for the APC governor despite remaining a prominent member of the PDP.
His position contrasts with that of his party, which is backing its governorship candidate, Wole Oluyede, in the keenly contested election.
The governorship poll has drawn significant attention, with voters across Ekiti State deciding who will lead the state for the next four years. Election officials and security agencies have continued to monitor the exercise as voting progresses across polling units.
