The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the August 15, 2026 election in Osun State, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has maintained that he is the sole candidate endorsed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the forthcoming governorship poll.
Oyebamiji made the assertion on Saturday during the inauguration of 7,830 polling unit canvassers drawn from the Ifedayo, Ila and Boluwaduro Federal Constituency areas. He used the occasion to dismiss reports alleging that President Tinubu had thrown his weight behind the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke.
Describing the reports as false and politically motivated, the APC flagbearer accused those behind the claims of attempting to mislead voters ahead of the election.
“I remain the anointed and endorsed candidate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State,” Oyebamiji stated.
“The claim that the President has endorsed the incumbent governor is false and should be disregarded. Those spreading such rumours are only trying to mislead the people of Osun State.”
Accompanied by his running mate, Engr. Benjamin Kayode Adereti, Oyebamiji pledged that his administration would be guided by the principles of fairness, justice, transparency, accountability and equitable resource distribution.
The event also witnessed the defection of notable political figures into the APC, including Hon. Ganiyu Ajiboye and Hon. Sulaiman Oladoye Salawu, both of whom publicly declared support for the party’s governorship campaign.
Speaking on the significance of the canvassers’ inauguration, Oyebamiji described the initiative as a key component of the party’s grassroots mobilisation strategy across Osun State’s 332 wards and 30 local government areas, including the Ife-East Area Office in Modakeke.
According to him, the move is aimed at strengthening voter engagement and consolidating the party’s presence at the polling unit level ahead of the election.
“This is another milestone in the history of our party to reawaken the consciousness of our people, especially the electorate at the polling units,” he said.
Director-General of the Osun APC Governorship Election Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke, charged the newly inaugurated canvassers to remain dedicated to the party’s electoral mission, describing them as crucial to the APC’s victory plans.
Also addressing party supporters, Dr. Festus Oyebade Olowogboyega, National Commissioner of the Federal Civil Service Commission representing Osun and Oyo states, alongside former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Adebayo Adeleke, urged residents to support the APC candidate.
The duo criticised the current administration in the state, alleging poor governance and mismanagement, while expressing confidence that an Oyebamiji-led government would deliver inclusive and people-oriented leadership.
Among dignitaries present at the event were the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Protocol, Alhaji Issah Niniola, Osun ALGON Chairman Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, and other APC leaders and stakeholders.
