Wanted Bandit Kingpin Mohammed Usman Arrested in Kogi While Attempting to Travel With Wife

A wanted bandit kingpin, Mohammed Usman, has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad (FID STS) while attempting to leave Kogi State with his wife.

According to a report aired by Arise News on Monday, June 22, 2026, the suspect was intercepted during an intelligence-led operation after security operatives allegedly tracked his movement towards an airport. Investigators reportedly discovered that Usman had purchased flight tickets worth approximately ₦9.8 million for himself and his wife before his arrest.

Commander of the FID STS, Assistant Commissioner of Police Victor Ogbeide, was quoted as saying that the tactical unit acted on credible intelligence that led to the suspect’s apprehension. The operation subsequently extended into a forest location in Kogi State, where security operatives allegedly recovered two AK-47 rifles believed to be linked to the suspect.

Ogbeide reportedly described the arrest as part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle criminal networks, track wanted suspects and prevent offenders from evading justice.

The operation also led to the arrest of Usman’s brother, Abubakar Usman. According to the report, he denied any involvement in or knowledge of his brother’s alleged criminal activities, insisting he only became aware of the accusations following their arrest.
