Babcock University has announced plans to take legal action against Nigerian streamer Carter Efe over an alleged forged academic certificate circulated on social media.

The controversy began after Carter Efe, during an interview with content creator Egungun of Lagos, claimed he graduated from the private university with top honours. He later shared what he described as his graduation certificate on X, formerly Twitter.

The certificate purportedly showed that the streamer earned a degree in Biochemistry with a “First Class Upper” classification.

However, in a statement released on Sunday, Babcock University dismissed the claim, describing the document as fraudulent and clarifying that the institution does not award any classification known as “First Class Upper.”

The university also stated that it does not issue honorary certificates for undergraduate academic performance, warning members of the public against accepting such documents as genuine.

“FRAUD ALERT, Babcock University does not issue ‘Honorary Certificates’ for undergraduate performance and has no classification known as ‘First Class Upper.’

“Any document claiming otherwise is fraudulent and should be disregarded. We urge the public to verify all credentials through the Office of the Registrar,” the statement read.

The institution further disclosed that it would pursue appropriate legal action against those responsible for the alleged forgery.
