‘Stop Talking Jargons’ — Ayekooto Blasts Falz in Fresh Row Over Remi Tinubu’s Charity Appeal

A fresh war of words has erupted between All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Ayekooto Akindele and Nigerian rapper Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, following the musician’s criticism of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s appeal to Afrobeats stars to support charitable causes.

The controversy began after the First Lady, while speaking in Lokoja, Kogi State, encouraged successful Nigerian musicians to invest in charity foundations and support small-scale businesses instead of spending heavily on luxury cars. She noted that the government was under significant pressure in addressing the country’s growing economic challenges.

Falz, during an interview on Arise Television, faulted the appeal, insisting that addressing poverty and supporting struggling businesses are primary responsibilities of the government.

Questioning the rationale behind the appeal, the rapper argued that elected officials willingly sought public office and should be prepared to deliver on their campaign promises.

He also referenced the ruling administration’s “Emilokan” campaign slogan, saying leaders who sought power should not complain about the burden of governance after assuming office.

Responding in a post shared on his official X account, Ayekooto dismissed Falz’s remarks and accused the rapper of unnecessarily inserting himself into the conversation.

According to the APC chieftain, the First Lady did not specifically mention Falz in her appeal, claiming instead that she was referring to leading Afrobeats stars such as Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy.

Ayekooto further took a swipe at the rapper, alleging that Falz was facing career challenges and therefore also needed assistance.

His comments have since fueled debate on social media, with supporters of both personalities weighing in on the growing disagreement over the role of government and wealthy celebrities in addressing poverty and economic hardship in Nigeria.
