The Olota of Otta, His Majesty Oba Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, has appealed to the Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, to support the emergence of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the next governor of the state.

Oba Obalanlege made the appeal on Monday during Adebutu’s consultative visit to the Awori Obas Forum at the Olota’s Palace in Otta.

Senator Adeola is the Ogun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Hon. Adebutu, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives, will contest the 2027 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the state’s major opposition party.

Speaking on behalf of the Awori monarchs, the traditional ruler urged Adebutu to consider the longstanding aspiration of Ogun West Senatorial District to produce the governor of the Gateway State, noting that the district had waited for about 50 years for the opportunity.

The monarch said the appeal was rooted in the principles of fairness, equity and brotherhood, stressing the need for a more inclusive pattern of political leadership across Ogun State.

Kabiyesi also disclosed that traditional rulers across Ogun West had consulted among themselves and reached out to monarchs in other senatorial districts before arriving at a collective position to support Yayi’s governorship ambition in the 2027 election.

According to him, the decision is driven by the desire to complement ongoing efforts to break the longstanding political jinx and promote fairness, equity and inclusiveness in the pattern of political leadership across the state.

The monarch’s appeal comes as political alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 Ogun governorship election, with stakeholders increasingly focusing on the longstanding demand for power to move to Ogun West.

The meeting was attended by several prominent Awori monarchs, including the Oloja Ẹkun Igbesa, HRM Oba Abdulazeez Akinde, FCA; the Onilogbo of Ilogbo Asowo, Otta, Oba Samuel Ojugbele; the Alagbara of Agbara, Oba Jayeola Agunbiade; the Alagbado of Agbado, Oba Adedayo Shyllon; the Olodan of Odan Abuja, Igbesa, Oba Engr.
