Nollywood veterans Yinka Quadri and Jide Kosoko on Monday arrived in Ilaro, Ogun State, to pay their final respects to late Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling stage-four cancer.
Quadri and Kosoko were among the early Nollywood stars who arrived at the late actor’s hometown for his funeral rites. Their presence sparked emotional reactions from fans, colleagues and residents who gathered to mourn the celebrated Yoruba cinema icon.
The two veteran actors were seen exchanging condolences with members of Ogogo’s family and other stakeholders in the entertainment industry.
They described the deceased as a dedicated actor, producer and director whose contributions played a significant role in the development and growth of indigenous-language filmmaking in Nigeria.
Ogogo had featured in more than 300 films during a career spanning over four decades. He was also recognised for his versatility on screen and his efforts to mentor younger talents in the Nigerian film industry.
Before his death, his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, had appealed publicly for support as their father battled his illness. The appeal attracted widespread prayers and goodwill from fans and colleagues across the country.
His death has since generated tributes from the entertainment industry and political circles.
Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, reportedly broke down while performing following news of Ogogo’s death, while actor Ijebu appealed publicly for forgiveness, stressing that “life is too short” to hold grudges.
The burial ceremonies in Ilaro are expected to attract more Nollywood stars, traditional rulers, political figures and other dignitaries as the industry bids farewell to one of its most prominent Yoruba-language actors.
