The Peoples Democratic Party has formally kicked off its campaign for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, with the party’s Ogun Central Senatorial candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo, declaring that a movement to restore good governance in the state has begun.
Obasanjo made the declaration in Abeokuta during the campaign flag-off, where she appeared alongside the PDP governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, and his running mate, Dr Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo.
The campaign event attracted party supporters, grassroots mobilisers, traditional leaders and residents, with Obasanjo describing the turnout as a sign of growing demand for a change in the state’s leadership.
“Standing here today surrounded by such incredible energy, the message is unequivocal, the movement to restore good governance to Ogun State has officially begun,” Obasanjo said.
She said Ogun State needed “a new direction” built around accountability, economic revival and a stronger commitment to development across its local government areas.
“Our state needs a new direction, one rooted in accountability, economic revival, and genuine commitment to every local government area,” she said.
According to Obasanjo, the PDP campaign would concentrate on issues directly affecting residents, including local infrastructure, economic opportunities and community empowerment.
She argued that residents had “waited long enough for a government that puts their everyday needs first.”
“We are taking this vision of effective representation and grassroots progress straight to every ward and every household,” she said.
The former presidential candidate’s daughter also stressed the importance of taking the party’s message beyond campaign rallies and into communities across the state as the PDP seeks to strengthen its grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 election.
The campaign flag-off marks the beginning of a more intensive political contest in Ogun State, with the PDP expected to take its campaign message to wards and communities across the state as parties position themselves for the 2027 governorship election.
