Ota Awori prince and lawyer Seyi Ojugbele defects from PDP to APC in Ogun State, citing Yayi’s infrastructure record and Ogun West’s governorship aspiration ahead of 2027

2027: Ojugbele Dumps PDP for APC, Backs Yayi’s Ogun Governorship Ambition

By Reporter

Prince Seyi Ojugbele, an Ota Awori prince and legal practitioner, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, citing infrastructure development in Ogun West and the quest for the district to produce the next governor of the state.

Ojugbele disclosed his reasons for joining the ruling party in a conversation with newsheadline247 Ado-Odo/Ota correspondent, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said the infrastructural projects credited to Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, influenced his decision to leave the PDP for the APC.

According to Ojugbele, Ogun West has experienced significant development under Adeola’s representation, describing the senator’s record as a major factor in his political realignment.

He argued that the benefits of governance witnessed in the senatorial district since Adeola entered the National Assembly were unprecedented in the current democratic dispensation, which began in 1999.

Ojugbele also said his defection was motivated by the campaign for Ogun West to produce a governor of Ogun State for the first time since the state was created.

He described the aspiration as an issue of equity and fairness, arguing that the district should be given an opportunity to lead the state after decades without producing a governor.

The prince said supporting the ambition of Ogun West to occupy the governorship seat would promote a sense of inclusion among the state’s constituent areas.

Ojugbele further expressed confidence in Adeola’s capacity to lead Ogun State, saying he believed the senator’s governorship ambition was driven by a desire to advance the state rather than personal interests.

He said he was convinced that Adeola could reposition Ogun State and strengthen its standing among Nigeria’s leading states.

The legal practitioner also called on indigenes and residents of Ogun State to rally behind the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

He urged supporters to mobilise in large numbers for all APC candidates in the state, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is seeking re-election.

Ojugbele’s defection comes as political actors and parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the governorship question in Ogun State and the demand for greater representation for Ogun West expected to remain significant issues in the state’s political discourse.
