A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has stirred political controversy after claiming that any vote cast for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2027 general election would ultimately amount to support for President Bola Tinubu.
Okonkwo made the remarks during an interview on Symfoni, where he argued that a divided opposition vote could strengthen Tinubu’s chances of re-election.
According to him, opposition fragmentation would only benefit the incumbent president.
“It’s either you are working for Tinubu directly or indirectly because when you divide the votes of some of the coalition or the opposition, you are still making Tinubu to win,” he said.
He also questioned Obi’s political moves, saying the former presidential candidate joined the ADC voluntarily and later exited shortly before the end of party processes.
“Nobody forced Peter Obi to enter the ADC. He entered on his own, and one week to the end of the closure of time, he left and gave reasons. What reason was that?” Okonkwo asked.
