An aspirant for the Osun East Senatorial District under the Accord Party, Samuel Oyedotun, has declared that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s growing popularity among residents of Osun State is unsettling the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oyedotun, who is seeking the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, made the remarks in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday, stressing that Adeleke continues to enjoy massive grassroots support despite sustained criticism from opposition parties.
According to him, the governor’s acceptance among the people has remained strong because of his unique leadership style and connection with ordinary residents across the state.
“Adeleke’s appeal cuts across party lines and resonates with residents who identify with his approach to governance,” Oyedotun said.
The United States-trained mortgage stockbroker further claimed that even members of the APC have been unable to understand why the governor’s popularity continues to rise.
“Within APC circles, many cannot explain why Adeleke’s acceptance has not waned. It remains a mystery to them because the people’s governor keeps getting more popular by the day,” he stated.
Speaking on the forthcoming August 15 governorship election, Oyedotun argued that opposition parties made the mistake of underrating Adeleke ahead of the 2022 governorship poll, only to suffer defeat at the ballot box.
He maintained that the governor has outperformed expectations and delivered in areas where previous administrations failed.
“In 2022, they underestimated him, and after he defeated the incumbent governor, they claimed he had nothing to offer the people of Osun. To their surprise, he has done exceptionally well and surpassed what the opposition claimed as achievements while in office,” he added.
Oyedotun also alleged that despite political challenges and attempts to frustrate the administration — including what he described as the illegal takeover of council funds — Adeleke has continued to record achievements that have endeared him to the masses.
“Osun people believe in his leadership and are prepared to support him again with their votes come August 15,” he said.
On his own political ambition, the Accord Party chieftain expressed confidence in securing the party’s senatorial ticket for Osun East, promising to prioritise the welfare of the people if elected.
Oyedotun had earlier commended the Adeleke administration for ongoing infrastructure projects across major towns and rural communities in the state, noting that the developments have contributed to poverty reduction and improved living conditions for residents.
Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on April 30, 2026, he stated that the projects executed by the state government have further strengthened Adeleke’s chances of securing re-election.
