Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government’s poultry initiative is making steady progress as 1,000 layer chicks thrive under expert care, advancing food security, job creation, and economic growth

Ado-Odo/Ota Poultry Project Gains Momentum as Over 1,000 Layer Chicks Thrive

Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government’s drive to strengthen food security and boost agricultural development is yielding encouraging results as its poultry farming initiative continues to record steady progress following the stocking of over 1,000 day-old layer chicks.

The project, championed by the Executive Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA, forms part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing food production, creating economic opportunities, and promoting self-reliance among residents.

Prior to the arrival of the birds, the administration rehabilitated and fully equipped the local government poultry facility to provide a conducive environment for sustainable poultry production.

A statement from the Chairman’s Media Office, made available to Newsheadline247, revealed that the chicks have adapted well to their new environment and are thriving under proper care and management, signaling a promising start for the initiative.

Speaking on the project, Hon. Wasiu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in practical programmes that directly improve the welfare of residents.

“Our goal is to build a sustainable agricultural system that strengthens food security, creates employment opportunities, and contributes meaningfully to the local economy. The progress recorded so far is encouraging and demonstrates what can be achieved through strategic investment in agriculture,” he said.

The chairman noted that beyond increasing food production and improving the supply of eggs within the local market, the initiative is also expected to generate revenue for the local government while supporting broader economic development objectives.

“This poultry project is more than a farm; it is a model for economic empowerment and community development. We are committed to expanding its capacity so that more residents can benefit from the opportunities it creates,” he added.

The administration described the project as a reflection of its determination to explore innovative and productive ventures capable of delivering long-term benefits to residents while strengthening the economic base of the local government.

With the early success recorded, plans are already being considered to expand the poultry operation in order to maximise its impact, increase output, and further advance food sufficiency across Ado-Odo/Ota.

As the chicks continue to develop successfully, the project stands as a significant milestone in the local government’s efforts to promote sustainable agriculture, stimulate economic growth, and improve livelihoods across the council area.
