Funke Awolowo, granddaughter of the late Nigerian statesman Obafemi Awolowo, has announced her resignation from the Lagos State Executive Committee of the Labour Party, where she served as Head of the Mobilisation and Integration Team.
In a statement addressed to the Lagos State Chairman, Dayo Ekong, Awolowo cited recent developments within the party that have undermined the committee’s integrity, making it untenable for her to continue in her role.
She expressed concern that the committee’s actions were being manipulated in ways that clashed with her core values, tarnishing her reputation.
“After careful consideration, I am resigning my position on the Lagos State Executive Committee, effective immediately,” Awolowo wrote. “The committee’s integrity is being eroded, and my name has been unjustly linked to actions I do not endorse.”
Awolowo emphasized that her decision does not diminish her dedication to public service or political engagement.
