The World Health Organisation (WHO) had warned of the spread of COVID-19 Delta variant.

The Federal Government and state governors have said there is no indication of an imminent lockdown as Nigeria prepares for the third wave of COVID-19.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State disclosed this to State House correspondents shortly after a virtual National Economic Council (NEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Sanwo-Olu said the VP assured that NEC would convene an emergency meeting on the COVID-19 resurgence, whenever the need arose.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) had warned of the spread of COVID-19 Delta variant.

Sanwo-Olu said there will be a review on a weekly basis to assess what the trends are.

“The chairman of the council (Osinbajo) mentioned to us that if there is a need for an emergency meeting, he will call one,” he said.

The governor said the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Presidential Task Force (PTF) are working with states like Lagos to monitor daily happenings.

“We are preparing ourselves to ensure that as much as possible, we can very quickly flatten the curve’’, Sanwo-Olu added.
