Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Thursday arrived at the Watershed Event Centre alongside his preferred successor, Bimbo Adekanmbi, for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship primary election.
Adekanmbi, accompanied by his wife, received a rousing welcome from party supporters who filled the venue with songs, drumming, dancing and chants in support of his ambition.
The governorship hopeful appeared in a white T-shirt branded with the APM logo and a fez cap bearing the inscription “Omituntun 3.0,” a slogan linked to the continuation of Makinde’s administration agenda.
Security was heightened around the venue, with operatives stationed at strategic points while a police bomb squad truck was positioned at the entrance to ensure safety during the exercise.
Among dignitaries present at the primary were APM Chairman, Otunba Adegbenro Fagbemi, and Dayo Ogungbenro, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction aligned with Governor Makinde.
The event commenced with special prayers offered for the safe release of students and teachers abducted from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
