Dangote Refinery Cuts Petrol Price to N825 per Litre, Offers N10 Rebate to Marketers

LAGOS, Nigeria – May 12, 2025 — In a move aimed at easing fuel distribution and supporting Nigeria’s energy market, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from N835 to N825 per litre.

The price cut, which takes effect immediately, is part of an incentive scheme under which marketers receive a N10 refund after the successful loading and evacuation of fuel from the refinery. While the listed price remains at N835 per litre, the effective cost drops to N825 following the rebate.

According to industry sources, this strategic rebate allows marketers to retail petrol at a more competitive range—between N830 and N835 per litre—undercutting prices offered by import-dependent marketers and private depot operators.

Analysts believe this pricing advantage could eventually lead to broader reductions in pump prices across the country, provided marketers pass the savings on to consumers.
