Desmond Elliot Breaks Silence, Apologises Amid Lagos APC Leadership Tensions

Lagos lawmaker and Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot, has publicly apologised to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over any offence he may have caused during recent political developments in Lagos State.

Elliot made the apology during an appearance on TVC’s Your View on Friday, stating that any misunderstanding between him and Gbajabiamila was never intentional.

The apology follows tensions surrounding the leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly, which sparked internal disagreements within the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Gbajabiamila had earlier disclosed that he nearly lost his position as Chief of Staff after President Bola Tinubu confronted him over intelligence reports alleging Elliot’s involvement in the Assembly speakership dispute. The former Speaker of the House of Representatives denied the allegations at the time.

Speaking during the programme, Elliot appealed for forgiveness, describing Gbajabiamila as a father figure.

“To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way,” he said.

The lawmaker also extended his apology to whom he referred to as the “matriarch of Surulere,” expressing regret over any perceived wrongdoing.

“To the matriarch of Surulere, mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you,” Elliot added.

Despite the controversy, the Surulere representative maintained that his focus remains on strengthening the party and delivering democratic dividends to his constituents.

“I will keep keeping the party strong. And to all Surulerians, my scorecard is there. You know the things I’ve done to make Surulere a better place,” he stated.

The Lagos Assembly leadership crisis, which created divisions within the APC in the state, was eventually resolved following interventions by top party leaders.
