Eid-ul-Mawlid Holiday: OGSIEC Extends Local Government Primary Elections Time Frame

…adjusts administrative fees

The extension was made in response to concerns raised by political parties in the state. They were worried that the holiday would disrupt their ability to organize primaries effectively

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has extended the local government primary elections across the state due to the Federal Government’s declaration of Monday, 16th September 2024 as a public holiday for the celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

Babatunde Osibodu, the State Chairman of the Commission, announced this extension in a statement obtained by newsheadline247.

The extension was made in response to concerns raised by political parties in the state. They were worried that the holiday would disrupt their ability to organize primaries effectively.

In light of this, the OGSIEC chairman disclosed that the Commission has extended the party primaries to Thursday, 19th September 2024, to allow more time for preparation.

Additionally, the administrative fees have been adjusted. The chairmanship candidate fee to be paid by political parties has been reduced from N250,000 to N200,000. Furthermore, fees for male and female councillorship candidates will now be N100,000 and N50,000 respectively.

The Commission also announced an extension of the collection period for Personal Data Forms CF001 and CF002 to Monday, 23rd September 2024, to ensure all parties have sufficient time to complete the necessary processes.

However, it’s important to note that despite these changes, all other aspects of the election timetable remain unchanged, with the election scheduled for 16th November 2024.
