Manchester United striker, Romelu Lukaku has disclosed that he told fellow teammate, Alexis Sanchez that he would score against his former club, Arsenal in the FA Cup.
Lukaku stated this following Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round encounter at Emirates on Friday.
Goals from Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford ensured Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men dumped Arsenal out from the competition.
However, a goal from Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang was not enough to hand Unai Emery’s side a point against the visitors.
“I told him yesterday in training, I said ‘listen, you’re gonna score tomorrow and I will give you the ball, as long as you run when I’m inside. If I can’t shoot just run, and I’ll find you,” Lukaku told MUTV.
“I think he could see I was looking at him and he made the right run and the finish from him was incredible, it was a good finish.
“We knew they would leave space, the full backs push, for us, me and Alexis were in a sort of cheating position, so our recovery would be in a three vs three, or three vs two.
“We had a lot of moments where we could have countered better, especially in the second half, I think we could have scored maybe two or three more goals, but 3-1 winning at Arsenal, the way how they play, they don’t lose a lot this season, is good.”
Manchester United will tackle Burnley on Tuesday in the Premier League fixture.
