The family of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has announced plans for his final burial rites, with interment scheduled for June 18, 2026, in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State.
Ekubo, who died on May 11 at the age of 40, will be honoured through a series of funeral ceremonies expected to draw family members, friends, colleagues, and admirers from across the country.
In a statement shared on Monday via the actor’s official Instagram page, the Ekubo-Okwaraeke family described the late actor as a loving and generous individual whose life reflected warmth, laughter, faith, and dedication to the people around him.
The statement, signed by Mazi Alex Oji Ekubo Okwaraeke, also expressed appreciation to Nigerians and fans worldwide for the overwhelming support received since the actor’s passing.
According to the family, the outpouring of prayers, condolence messages, visits, phone calls, and encouragement during the difficult period has brought comfort and strength to them.
As part of the funeral arrangements, a service of songs will take place on June 10 at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., with guests expected to appear in white attire.
A wake-keep has also been scheduled for June 17 at the family compound in Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.
The funeral service and interment will hold on June 18 in Arochukwu, after which guests will proceed to a reception at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village.
The family had earlier disclosed that the actor died at Evercare Hospital after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
Born in Port Harcourt and hailing from Arochukwu in Abia State, Ekubo rose to fame after emerging first runner-up in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria pageant before transitioning successfully into Nollywood.
During his acting career, he featured in several hit productions, including Weekend Getaway, The Bling Lagosians, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, and Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story.
His death sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans, and members of the entertainment industry on social media.
