A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by the detained leader of the separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The leader of the separatist group IPOB, Kanu, filed a lawsuit seeking N1 billion in damages for alleged right violations against the Department of State Services (DSS) and its Director General.

Kanu claimed that the DSS and its Director General violated his right to fair hearing by preventing his lawyers from having unrestricted access to him and interfering with his interactions with them while he was detained and preparing for his criminal trial.

However, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed Kanu’s suit. The court held that Kanu failed to provide credible evidence to support his claims that his interactions with his lawyers were interfered with, that he was denied unrestricted access to his lawyers, and that DSS officials eavesdropped on his conversations with his lawyers, which would have constituted a breach of his right to fair hearing.
