“They Want to Paint Me Black”: Baale of Sango-Ota Cries Out Over Alleged Plot to Frame, Discredit Him

By Lukman Omikunle

In a dramatic development that has stirred both concern and solidarity across Aworiland, the palace of Baale Abdulwasiu Olawale Akilo—traditional ruler and Oba-designate of Sango-Ota—has raised a serious security alert, warning of a calculated plot by unnamed individuals to frame him using planted evidence and media propaganda.

In a public statement issued on behalf of the Baale, Prince Elder Lawal Lamidi Alabi, Chief of Staff of the Iganmode Afeleja Foundation and President of the Forum of Awori Intelligentsia, claimed that “hoodlums and disgruntled elements” are working to implant live ammunition and other incriminating materials within the palace grounds in a bid to derail the Baale’s elevation to Obaship.

“This is not just an attack on a man,” Prince Alabi said in an exclusive conversation with our correspondent. “It is an attack on the will of the Awori people, on tradition, and on peace. They want to dent his image, ruin his credibility, and block his path to kingship.”

According to intelligence reportedly gathered by the palace, the alleged conspirators are planning what they describe as a “final blow”—a smear campaign designed to implicate Baale Akilo and his supporters in criminal activities.

The statement also warned that media professionals may have been hired to propagate these narratives, should the plot succeed.

Baale Akilo, who has reportedly survived similar attacks in the past, is calling on the people of Aworiland to stay alert and vigilant. He also urged the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to take action in this matter.

“The Almighty Olodumare has protected us before,” Baale Akilo was quoted as saying through his representative. “We believe He will protect us again. But we also need our people to speak out, stay aware, and share this information with security agencies. This is our collective responsibility.”

Supporters of the Baale gathered at the palace shortly after the statement was released, expressing their loyalty and readiness to defend what they described as a legitimate and righteous traditional process.

“This is beyond politics,” said community leader Mrs. Modinat Olatunji. “Baale Akilo has always stood for peace and progress. We will not let bad eggs disrupt our land.”

The palace urged residents to pass the intelligence report on to relevant security and defense agencies to prevent escalation and protect both the Baale and the integrity of Aworiland.

“We must not allow mischief-makers to turn our sacred land into a battleground of lies,” Prince Alabi concluded.

As tensions mount ahead of the anticipated transition to Obaship, all eyes remain on Sango-Ota. The hope among many is that tradition, truth, and justice will ultimately prevail.

“No Room for Rogues…” Police Launch Probe into Highway Extortion Scandal

In a swift response to a viral video exposing extortion by officers on the Benin bypass, the Nigeria Police Force has launched a formal investigation and initiated disciplinary proceedings against those involved.

Six officers—alongside their supervising Chief Superintendent of Police—have been summoned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, following widespread public outrage over the video. They appeared before the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who condemned their actions as “shameful, distasteful, and utterly unacceptable.”

The IGP wasted no time in ordering immediate disciplinary measures. The accused officers have been issued official queries and are now facing orderly room trials—a step that could lead to dismissals or other severe sanctions if found guilty.

Reiterating the Force’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and misconduct, IGP Egbetokun emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to upholding integrity, professionalism, and public accountability.

“This incident is not just a breach of the law, but a betrayal of public trust,” the IGP stated. “Officers who fall short of our standards will face the full weight of internal discipline.”

The Police assured citizens that those found culpable will be held fully accountable, urging the public to continue reporting unprofessional behavior to help cleanse the system.

This latest action underscores the Force’s renewed drive to restore confidence in law enforcement and set a clear example that misconduct—no matter how minor or who is involved—will not be tolerated. Read More

U.S. Suspends Student Visa Interviews Worldwide — Nigerian Applicants Among the Most Affected

The directive is expected to affect Nigerian students. Each year, thousands travel to the U.S. for undergraduate and postgraduate education

U.S. Suspends Student Visa Interviews Worldwide — Nigerian Applicants Among the Most Affected

The United States has announced a global suspension of new student visa interview appointments, dealing a blow to thousands of prospective international students, including many Nigerians, who are preparing to begin studies in American universities.

The abrupt policy shift comes as the U.S. government prepares to roll out stricter vetting procedures—specifically, a deeper review of applicants’ social media activity.

In a diplomatic cable sent Tuesday and obtained by Politico, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered embassies and consulates around the world to stop scheduling interviews for new F, M, and J visa applicants—the visa categories that cover international students and exchange visitors.

“Effective immediately, in preparation for an expansion of required social media screening and vetting, consular sections should not add any additional student or exchange visitor visa appointment capacity until further guidance is issued,” Rubio stated in the cable.

Who’s Affected?

The directive is expected to hit Nigerian students particularly hard. Each year, thousands travel to the U.S. for undergraduate and postgraduate education. With the fall semester looming, this pause puts future plans in limbo.

The freeze, however, does not affect appointments that have already been scheduled. Those interviews will proceed as planned, at least for now.

Why Now?

While the policy is being presented as a security precaution, critics point to broader political motivations. The move aligns with wider actions by the Trump administration, which has accused foreign students and some academic institutions of fostering what it calls “a culture of antisemitism” on campuses.

The government has also escalated pressure on American universities over race-conscious admissions policies. Just last week, the Department of Homeland Security revoked Harvard University’s ability to enroll new international students after the school refused to hand over behavioral records of foreign enrollees. The agency simultaneously froze $2.3 billion in federal funding to the university.

Mounting Visa Revocations

These latest moves follow a wave of visa revocations. According to Premium Times report, nearly 600 international students across more than 90 institutions had their visas canceled or legal status terminated just last month.

A federal judge has since blocked further terminations while legal challenges play out in court, but the message from the administration remains firm.

“We’re going to continue to revoke the visas of people who are here as guests and are disrupting our higher education facilities. A visa is a privilege, not a right,” Rubio said in testimony before Congress last week. Read More

Elumelu: UBA Driving Africa’s Growth

Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA), which recently declared a gross profit of ₦3.2 trillion, with total assets and shareholders’ funds standing at ₦30.3 trillion and ₦3.4 trillion respectively, has declared that the financial powerhouse is just beginning its high-impact role in Africa’s development.

The bank, which serves over 45 million customers globally and operates in 20 African countries, is rated as one of the continent’s largest employers with over 25,000 employees.

“We process transactions in billions on a daily basis. UBA is helping to transform life on the continent because payments and access to finance are critical to Africa’s development. But we are just starting,” said Elumelu, who is also one of Africa’s leading investors and philanthropists. He made this statement at the Qatar Economic Forum on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

The banking chief, known for championing shared prosperity in Africa, spoke alongside Tan Su Shan, CEO of DBS Bank, during a plenary session moderated by Jennifer Zabasajja, Chief Africa Correspondent & Anchor at Bloomberg TV.

Elumelu’s remarks come in the wake of UBA’s successful ₦251 billion oversubscribed rights issue and an impressive string of awards across the continent, reflecting the bank’s continued growth under his leadership.

Independent checks reveal that the financial institution, highly rated for its customer service, ended 2024 on a high note.

This included being named Bank of the Year in five African countries—Ghana, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Zambia—by Bankers Magazine, as well as Best Regional Bank in West Africa at the African Banker Awards.

Less than halfway into 2025, UBA has already emerged as a top performer across various banking metrics.

A key indicator of this was the 2025 Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) Service Awards, held in Lagos in May.

The bank, which recently launched a new feature called Advance Top-Up on its USSD platform *919#—designed to provide instant access to airtime and data, especially for customers who are out of call credit or disconnected from the internet—took home the most prestigious accolades at the event.

UBA was awarded:

Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) Partner with the Highest Impact on MSMEs in Nigeria

DBN Partner with the Highest Impact on Women MSMEs

Participating Financial Institution (PFI) with the Highest Impact in the North-Central Zone

Platinum Service Ambassador Award

Another major testament to UBA’s deep involvement in Africa’s development was highlighted by Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), during a visit to UBA’s UK office—part of its presence across four continents.

He acknowledged the long-standing relationship between the AfDB and UBA Group, stating: “Over the years, our engagement has evolved, reflecting our shared interest in supporting Africa’s economic landscape.” Read More

Children’s Day: “No Child Should Suffer in Silence” — President Tinubu Declares War on Bullying, Unveils Child Protection Reforms

“We need a Nigeria where every child feels safe, respected, and heard—whether in the classroom or online” – Tinubu

Children’s Day: “No Child Should Suffer in Silence” — President Tinubu Declares War on Bullying, Unveils Child Protection Reforms

In a stirring Children’s Day address that struck at the heart of child welfare and national development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu pledged unwavering commitment to eradicating bullying and strengthening protection for every Nigerian child.

Describing children as “the heartbeat of the nation’s future and the custodians of tomorrow’s innovation and leadership,” Tinubu declared that safeguarding their rights and wellbeing is not just a constitutional mandate, but a shared moral obligation.

This year’s Children’s Day theme, “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation,” set the tone for the President’s passionate call for cultural and systemic change.

“We need a Nigeria where every child feels safe, respected, and heard—whether in the classroom or online,” Tinubu said. “Violence, bullying, and neglect have no place in today’s Nigeria.”

Citing alarming statistics, the President highlighted that one in three children globally experience bullying, while local data indicates up to 65% of school-aged Nigerian children face various forms of aggression.

“These numbers are unacceptable in a country that is deeply invested in the wellbeing of its next generation,” he declared.

As part of sweeping child protection reforms under his Renewed Hope Agenda, President Tinubu announced the full implementation of the National Plan of Action on Ending Violence Against Children (2024–2030), which focuses on prevention, prosecution of offenders, and support for victims.

He also noted that efforts are underway to strengthen key legal frameworks, including the Child Rights Act (2003) and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (2015). Tinubu emphasized the importance of digital safety, underlining the role of the Cybercrime Act in protecting children from cyberbullying and online exploitation.

While acknowledging that all 36 states have now domesticated the Child Rights Act, Tinubu urged stakeholders to move beyond legislation.

“Laws alone are not enough. We need parents, teachers, caregivers, religious leaders, and ordinary Nigerians to join hands in protecting our children,” he said.

The federal government is expanding its real-time response mechanisms to child abuse through national systems like the Child Protection Information Management System (CPIMS) and community-level interventions coordinated by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.

Tinubu also revealed plans for a dedicated institutional framework to advance child protection and development, alongside the launch of a National Policy on Safety, Security, and Violence-Free Schools, including new safety guidelines for school administrators.

Underscoring the importance of inclusive education, the President cited efforts by the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children to bring every Nigerian child into the classroom.

Healthcare was not left out. Tinubu announced the expansion of Mother and Child Hospitals across all six geopolitical zones, integration of maternal and child health services, and improved access to nutrition through programmes like Nutrition 774 and the National School Feeding Scheme.

He also introduced the development of a Universal Child Grant, a Child Wellbeing Index, and the establishment of a Department of Nutrition within the Ministry of Women’s Affairs to ensure holistic child development.

To promote active citizenship, the President launched a national campaign:
“See Something, Say Something, Do Something,” urging all Nigerians to take responsibility for protecting vulnerable children.

Speaking directly to the children of Nigeria, Tinubu offered reassurance and encouragement.

“Your dreams matter. Your voices matter. Your safety matters. If you are harmed, speak up. You will be heard, and you will be protected,” he promised.

He ended his address with a vision of hope:
“May your laughter continue to echo across this nation as a symbol of our collective strength and future greatness. No child should suffer in silence or be left behind on the journey to national greatness.”

President Tinubu’s message marked a powerful stand against child abuse and affirmed his administration’s resolve to build a safer, more inclusive Nigeria for its youngest citizens. Read More

“Love Yourself Beyond the Likes” – Tiwa Savage Urges Fans to See Beyond Social Media Illusions

Afrobeats superstar and global icon Tiwa Savage is calling on fans to embrace authenticity, self-love, and personal growth in a world increasingly shaped by filtered realities and digital pressure.

In a heartfelt interview with Dose of Society, Savage opened up about the emotional toll of social media, emphasizing the importance of self-worth beyond the curated content seen online.

Tiwa Savage

“My message to the world is that we need to show a bit more love,” Savage said. “Especially when we look at social media, I just see things that are make-believe. We all know it’s not real, but we’re still putting pressure on ourselves when all we need to do is love a little bit more.”

The award-winning singer stressed that platforms like Instagram and TikTok often portray an incomplete version of people’s lives, leading many to unfairly compare themselves to others.

“When you put things into perspective, you’ll start appreciating yourself more. Live in the moment,” she advised.

Savage also reflected on personal growth and the lessons she would share with her younger self, encouraging independence, resilience, and self-discovery.

“Figure it out, get up and figure it out. I know you think everyone has the manual for life. The only thing you owe yourself is to wake up, be present and try,” she said. “Even if you fail or win, you’d figure it out. Nobody has your life; we may have examples and templates and people we look up to, but nobody has your exact dreams, so figure it out for yourself.”

Her words come at a time when mental health advocates and public figures alike are pushing back against unrealistic digital ideals and encouraging more grounded, holistic living.

With her signature grace and vulnerability, Tiwa Savage continues to use her voice for more than music—reminding fans that being present, real, and loving themselves deeply is the true definition of success. Read More

Mascot of mediocrity: A rejoinder to Dapo Abiodun’s imported propaganda merchant | By Wale Onifade

Mascot of mediocrity: A rejoinder to Dapo Abiodun’s imported propaganda merchant | By Wale Onifade

On a calm Sunday morning, after an intense strategy session with two highly regarded colleagues; one, a seasoned media strategist; the other, a titan in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, I came across an article authored by one Seyi Bakare.

The name is clearly a pseudonym, but its style and content betray its true source; one of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s imported media lobbyists from Ondo State.

The piece, provocatively titled “Wale Onifade’s Agbero Onslaught About Dapo Abiodun,” was neither a defence of governance nor an exercise in intellectual engagement.

Rather, it was a misguided, insult-laced rant from someone clearly more committed to sycophancy than substance.

Instead of addressing the valid and pressing concerns raised in my earlier article, “Rewriting History With Lies: Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Dangerous Obsession With Altering Facts,” this media consultant opted for petty name-callings, unprovoked insults, and empty rhetoric.

This isn’t just unprofessional; it’s an indictment of the very office he represents. When the incompetent begin to yell insults at their critics, it’s often because they fear the truth.

Let me restate this plainly.

I am Wale Onifade, a proud Owu prince; not some imported spin doctor who sees every voice of reason as an enemy of the state.

The attempt to frame me as a “lackey” of a former governor, a “political leper,” or an “attack dog” is both lazy and laughable. These names reveal more about the poverty of ideas in your response than about the person you’re attempting to smear.

And since you’ve now stripped yourself bare in the marketplace of ideas; dancing publicly without rhythm or grace, I suppose congratulations are in order. You’ve done a fantastic job marketing a bad, mid-level product to the good people of Ogun State. You’ve taken political mediocrity and packaged it like premium leadership.

But while your pen dances in circles, you’ve conveniently forgotten to explain how your principal claimed to have studied a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from University of Ife; a programme that doesn’t even exist in that prestigious institution.

That’s not just an error. It’s a deliberate distortion; a textbook example of the very historical revisionism I warned about.

This is not about personality clashes.

It’s about holding public office holders accountable and refusing to let sycophants distort truth under the guise of media management. If your principal continues to rewrite history unchecked, we will continue to call him out; boldly, factually, and responsibly.

And when he does well, we will not hesitate to acknowledge it either.

If you truly believe in the drivel you’ve been peddling, also have the courage to put your real name on it.

In Yorubaland, we say: “Omo Akin ogbodo sojo.” A true warrior fears no one.

Step out; with your full chest, and own your words like a true professional.

Osogbo, Osun State – Former Interior Minister and ex-Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has firmly restated that his political group, the Omoluabi Progressives, is not in alliance with any political party as it sets its sights on reclaiming the leadership of the state.

Aregbesola made the declaration in a heartfelt message of appreciation to dignitaries who attended his 68th birthday celebration, held at the De-Distinguished Events Centre in Osogbo.
