LeBron James Sets New NBA Field Goal Record Despite Lakers’ Loss to Nuggets
LeBron James etched another milestone into his legendary career on Thursday night, becoming the NBA’s all-time leader in field goals made. However, the historic moment could not prevent the Los Angeles Lakers from falling 120–113 to the Denver Nuggets.

The 41-year-old surpassed the previous record of 15,837 field goals held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar after draining a fadeaway jumper in the first quarter. The achievement adds another chapter to a career already defined by longevity and record-breaking performances.

James, who also holds the NBA’s all-time scoring record with more than 43,000 career points, finished the game with 16 points.

The milestone night briefly turned worrying late in the fourth quarter when James appeared to injure his left elbow after being pushed off balance and falling onto a cameraman near the sideline.

Play was temporarily halted as the veteran forward left the court. Though he returned for the final two minutes, he was visibly in discomfort.

Despite the Lakers mounting a late push to cut the deficit to a single point with two minutes remaining, the Nuggets held firm to secure a wire-to-wire victory.

Reigning star Nikola Jokic led Denver with another dominant triple-double, posting 28 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds.

“They’re a difficult team to beat,” Jokic said after the game. “We scored when we needed.”

The result could prove significant in the Western Conference playoff race. The Lakers currently occupy the sixth and final automatic playoff spot, sitting just ahead of Denver.

Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns missed an opportunity to close the gap after suffering a narrow 105–103 loss to the Chicago Bulls.

James reached the scoring record in 2023 when he surpassed Abdul-Jabbar. While part of that feat came in the modern era with the three-point line—something Abdul-Jabbar did not benefit from for much of his career—the new field goal record further underscores James’ remarkable durability across a record 23 NBA seasons.

Amid growing speculation about retirement, James hinted earlier this year that his future remains uncertain.

“I don’t know what the future holds,” he told reporters in January.
For now, however, the four-time NBA champion continues to rewrite the record books.

Trump Dismisses Ground Troop Plan for Iran, Signals Interest in Leadership Change

0

Former US President Donald Trump has dismissed the possibility of deploying American ground troops to Iran, describing the move as unnecessary amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking in a telephone interview with NBC News on Thursday, Trump said considering a ground invasion at this stage would be “a waste of time,” arguing that Iran had already suffered significant military losses.

“It’s a waste of time. They’ve lost everything. They’ve lost their navy. They’ve lost everything they can lose,” Trump said.

His comments came in response to remarks by Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, who earlier warned that any attempt by the United States or Israel to launch a ground invasion would end in disaster for invading forces.

Trump dismissed the warning, calling the statement a “wasted comment.”

The former president also suggested he would prefer a swift restructuring of Iran’s leadership rather than a prolonged transition.

“We want to go in and clean out everything quickly. We don’t want someone who would rebuild over a 10-year period,” he said.

Trump further claimed he had ideas about who could lead Iran in the future but declined to reveal specific names.

Earlier in the week, he indicated he would need to be involved in determining Iran’s next leadership after reports that Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed during the opening phase of the conflict.

The fighting reportedly began on Saturday with joint strikes by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets.

Meanwhile, fresh attacks were reported in Tehran on Friday, as Israel announced it was targeting what it described as “regime infrastructure” in what officials called a new phase of the ongoing war against Iran.

The developments mark a significant escalation in the conflict, raising concerns about further instability across the Middle East.

Ogun 2027: Tinubu Think-Tank Patron, Jelili Amusan, Declares Governorship Ambition

Patron of the Tinubu National Think-Tank, Jelili Amusan, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in Abeokuta on Thursday, Amusan said his ambition is driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.

“My intention to join the governorship race as the Patron of Tinubu National Think-Tank and Founder of the JKA Support Group for PBAT Till 2031 Movement is greatly inspired by the PBAT Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated.

The former two-term House of Representatives member, who represented Odeda, Obafemi-Owode, and Abeokuta North Federal Constituency, emphasized his readiness to sustain the achievements of the current administration.

“The objective is to sustain the achievements of the current administration and ensure that our people continue to experience the true dividends of democracy,” Amusan added.

Amusan, who has previously contested twice for the Ogun Central Senatorial seat and twice for the governorship, highlighted his grassroots connections and political resilience. He assured that his campaign would strictly adhere to the Electoral Act and APC constitution.

Beyond politics, Amusan pointed to his decades of private sector experience as proof of his administrative capacity, financial discipline, and strategic planning skills. He pledged to prioritize industrial expansion, entrepreneurship, education, security, agriculture, healthcare, and infrastructure development.

He unveiled plans for initiatives such as “Operation Feed Ogun State” to boost food security and emphasized his vision to reposition Ogun as a leading economic hub in Nigeria.

Political observers believe his entry could reshape APC’s internal dynamics ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested primary. His combination of legislative experience, private sector background, and grassroots appeal may position him as a formidable contender in 2027. Read More

Dangote Refinery Reaffirms Commitment to National Energy Stability Amid Global Market Volatility

Dangote Refinery Reaffirms Commitment to National Energy Stability Amid Global Market Volatility

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals reassures Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to serving as a stabilising force amid recent shocks in the international oil market.

The conflict in the Middle East has led to the shutdown of some refineries and cut in refinery production across the world. This is leading to a global scarcity of petroleum products. China has banned export of gasoline and diesel. The Dangote Refinery will ensure that Nigeria is insulated from these supply shocks by prioritising supply to the domestic market. This is one of the many benefits of domestic refining

The conflict has driven global crude and freight prices sharply higher, with benchmark Brent prices rising by about 26% within a short period to above $84.0 per barrel. In response, the refinery implemented a measured adjustment of N100 per litre in its ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit, representing an increase of about 12%. The refinery has absorbed 20% of the cost escalation, for now, to cushion the domestic market. This is despite continuing to source crude at prevailing international market prices, whether purchased locally or from foreign suppliers.

It is worth noting that Nigerian crude oil is more expensive than the Brent benchmark price by $3 to $6 per barrel. After adding freight of $3.50 per barrel, crude oil will be landing in our tanks between $88 and $91 per barrel. For context, crude oil was landing our tanks at about $68 per barrel when our ex-depot price was N774/litre.

Furthermore, while we receive about five cargoes a month from NNPC which we pay for in Naira, these cargoes are priced at international market prices + Premium and fall short of the 13 cargoes which we require to support sales into Nigeria. We therefore, end up procuring foreign exchange at open market rates to pay for crude cargoes purchased from local and international traders.

The high crude cost is compounded by the fact that Nigeria upstream producers have failed to supply crude oil to the refinery as required under the PIA, forcing us to source a substantial portion through international traders who charge an additional premium.

As a private enterprise operating in a deregulated environment, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has remained responsive and has made significant sacrifices by aligning pricing with market realities to ensure sustainability, particularly as it sources all its crude at prevailing international market prices, whether locally or from foreign suppliers. Selling below cost would undermine its ability to procure crude, sustain production and guarantee uninterrupted supply to Nigerians.

Despite these pressures, local refining at this scale continues to reduce exposure to international supply disruptions, moderate foreign exchange demand and protect the country from severe shortages during periods of global instability.

The refinery is also accelerating deployment of Compressed Natural Gas-powered trucks to cushion the impact of global shocks, enhance nationwide distribution efficiency, reduce logistics costs and improve delivery timelines across the downstream sector. The rollout is scheduled to commence this month. Read More

IPOB has revealed that $100,000 was paid to lawyers Mike Ozekhome and Ifeanyi Ejiofor for Nnamdi Kanu’s legal defense, stressing transparency and accountability in the process

IPOB Discloses $100,000 Payment to Ozekhome, Ejiofor for Nnamdi Kanu’s Defense

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has disclosed that a total of $100,000 was paid to Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, and Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor as legal fees for representing its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in his trial against the Nigerian government.

The revelation was made in a statement issued by Madam Nnennaya Anya, Head of IPOB’s Finance Directorate, who emphasized that the disclosure was necessary to ensure transparency and accountability.

“Acting strictly on the direct instructions of our Supreme Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu (Onyendu), I facilitated the transfer of a total sum of One Hundred Thousand United States Dollars ($100,000.00 USD) to accounts designated by Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN,” Anya stated.

She explained that the payment was made in two installments — $80,000 first, followed by $20,000 — strictly for the purpose of Kanu’s legal defense.

IPOB stressed that all records of the transaction are available for verification within its structures, adding that the clarification was issued to dispel misinformation and speculation surrounding the matter.

“This statement is issued in the interest of transparency, accountability, and to dispel any misinformation or speculation surrounding the matter. May Chukwu Okike Abiama continue to guide and protect our struggle for justice and self-determination,” Anya added.

Kanu, who previously opted to represent himself in court, is currently appealing his conviction on terrorism charges. He is serving a life sentence at Sokoto Prison, following his trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Read More

Tinubu Secures Landmark OPL 245 Settlement, Unlocks Nigeria’s Deepwater Oil Future

President Bola Tinubu has resolved the 15-year OPL 245 dispute, unlocking Nigeria’s deepwater oil potential and signaling renewed investor confidence in the energy sector.

Nigeria Ends 15-Year OPL 245 Dispute: Tinubu Hails New Era for Oil Investment

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the resolution of Nigeria’s longest-running oil dispute, declaring the settlement over Oil Prospecting Licence (OPL) 245 a landmark step toward unlocking one of the country’s most commercially promising deepwater assets.

The agreement, signed in Abuja between the Federal Government, Italian energy giant Eni, and its subsidiary Nigerian Agip Exploration Limited (NAEL), formally ends a legal and commercial standoff that has dragged on for more than 15 years.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa alongside Eni’s Chief Executive Officer Claudio Descalzi and other top executives, Tinubu described the deal as a strategic milestone for Nigeria’s energy sector.

“This resolution sends a clear signal to global investors that Nigeria is prepared to address legacy issues transparently, uphold the rule of law, and create a stable environment for long-term capital,” the president said.

The settlement restores regulatory clarity to OPL 245, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most valuable deepwater blocks. Attention now shifts to the planned Zabazaba–Etan development, expected to deliver about 150,000 barrels of oil per day at peak production once a final investment decision is taken.

Special Adviser on Energy, Olu Arowolo-Verheijen, noted that the agreement improves on the 2011 framework and aligns with the Petroleum Industry Act, offering investors greater predictability while ensuring stronger value for Nigeria.

Tinubu commended the Office of the Attorney General, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NNPC Limited, and Eni for their roles in securing the settlement. He emphasized that resolving the OPL 245 dispute removes one of the most prominent legacy risks in Nigeria’s upstream oil industry and strengthens the country’s reputation as a predictable destination for energy investment.

Unlocking strategic assets like OPL 245, Tinubu added, is central to his administration’s plan to drive economic growth, create jobs, and ensure Nigeria’s natural resources deliver long-term value for its citizens. Read More

Abba Kyari’s Drug Trial Continues: NDLEA Clarifies After Asset Case Discharge

The NDLEA has confirmed that Abba Kyari’s drug trafficking case remains active before the Federal High Court in Abuja, despite his discharge in a separate asset declaration case.

NDLEA Clarifies: Abba Kyari’s Drug Trafficking Case Still Ongoing in Abuja Court

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reaffirmed that the drug trafficking case against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari is still very much alive and will proceed before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

This clarification comes after Justice James Omotosho discharged Kyari in a separate 23-count charge related to alleged non-declaration of assets.

In a statement, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, stressed that the ruling does not affect the agency’s primary case.

“First, I need to clarify that the ruling by Justice Omotosho is completely different from the main and substantive drug case, which continues before Justice Emeka Nwite on Monday. That one is very much on course,” Babafemi said.

He explained that the discharged case involved money laundering and asset declaration, while the drug trafficking prosecution remains intact. NDLEA’s legal team will obtain a Certified True Copy (CTC) of Justice Omotosho’s judgment to review possible next steps, including a potential appeal.

Kyari, once head of the Nigeria Police Force’s Intelligence Response Team, has faced multiple legal battles since 2022 after being accused of involvement in drug trafficking offences. The NDLEA insists its prosecution in the drug case remains unaffected and will continue as scheduled.

₦2.5Bn Fraud Charges: Stella Oduah Begins Returning Alleged Looted Funds, Opts for Plea Bargain

Former Aviation Minister Stella Oduah has entered a plea bargain in her ₦2.5bn fraud case, beginning the process of refunding alleged looted funds to the Federal Government

₦2.5bn Fraud Case: Stella Oduah Begins Returning Funds

Former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, has taken a dramatic turn in her ongoing ₦2.5 billion fraud trial, opting for a plea bargain arrangement and beginning the process of refunding part of the alleged proceeds to the Federal Government.

At the Federal High Court in Abuja, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), revealed that Oduah and her co-defendant had approached the Attorney-General’s office to negotiate a deal.

“They have made moves to refund certain amount of money into the government coffers. What is left is the confirmation of receipt of the bank draft by the government,” Oyedepo told the court.

Counsel to Oduah, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), confirmed the development, while Favour Osuanya, representing the second defendant, also affirmed that discussions for a plea bargain were ongoing.

Justice Hamza Muazu adjourned the matter until March 26 to receive a report on the plea bargain agreement.

Earlier, on February 12, Oyedepo had informed the court that the plea bargain application was made under Section 270 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, noting that negotiations were still in progress.

Oduah was arraigned in December 2025 alongside Gloria Odita on a five-count charge bordering on fraud, obtaining by false pretence, and criminal breach of trust. The prosecution alleged that the defendants conspired to obtain about ₦2.4 billion from the Federal Ministry of Aviation through Broad Waters Resources Nigeria Ltd and Global Offshore Marine Ltd under fraudulent claims.

The offences, according to prosecutors, contravene Sections 8(a) and 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud Act and are punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act. Both defendants pleaded not guilty at arraignment.

With the plea bargain now in motion, the case has shifted from a potentially lengthy trial to a settlement path that could see Oduah return significant sums to the government. Whether this marks the beginning of accountability or simply a negotiated escape from harsher penalties remains to be seen.

Details – How Indimi Sisters Ameena and Zara Won $43.51m in Family Oil Dispute

Twin sisters Ameena and Zara Indimi have secured $43.51m in a Federal High Court ruling against Oriental Energy Resources, marking a major victory in a family oil business dispute

Twin Triumph: Ameena and Zara Indimi Win $43.51m in Landmark Family Dispute

Born into the wealthy Muhammadu Indimi family of Borno State, Nigeria, identical twin sisters Ameena and Zara have always lived in the spotlight of privilege. But their latest victory is not about luxury—it’s about justice.

On February 25, 2026, a Federal High Court ordered Oriental Energy Resources to pay the sisters $43.51 million in unpaid dividends. The ruling followed years of dispute over shareholding and dividend entitlements in one of Nigeria’s most prominent private oil companies.

The case hinged on dividends linked to a reported $435.1 million declared in 2016. Ameena and Zara argued that their rightful 10% stake—split equally at 5% each—was unfairly diluted to just 0.6% apiece without their consent.

“We never agreed to surrender our shares. What happened was not transparent, and we had to fight for what was rightfully ours,” Ameena said in court filings.

Oriental Energy countered that the sisters had voluntarily transferred shares and received payments in return, describing the transactions as part of a broader family settlement.

But the judge sided with the twins, ruling that they were entitled to a much larger payout than they received.

While the detailed reasoning has not been fully disclosed, the judgment underscores the importance of corporate governance and transparency in family-owned businesses.

“This is not just about money—it’s about fairness and accountability,” Zara reportedly told associates after the ruling.

Founded by their father, Muhammadu Indimi, Oriental Energy remains a major player in Nigeria’s oil sector, with offshore assets in the Niger Delta.

Yet the case highlights how internal disputes can spill into the courts when succession, ownership, and governance collide.

Whether Oriental Energy complies immediately or pursues further legal action remains uncertain.

For now, Ameena and Zara’s victory is a powerful reminder that even in dynastic wealth, justice can prevail. Read More

Remi Tinubu Tasks Governors’ Wives on Youth Empowerment, Malnutrition Fight

0

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on wives of state governors to strengthen grassroots interventions aimed at empowering youths, supporting women and addressing child malnutrition across the country.

Speaking on Thursday during the first quarterly meeting of governors’ wives under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) at the State House, Tinubu stressed the need for state First Ladies to take ownership of social programmes and deliver measurable results in their respective states.

The meeting brought together the First Ladies to review activities, programmes and targets set for the year under the RHI platform.

Addressing journalists after the opening session, Tinubu said the gathering marked the first time this year that the governors’ wives would collectively assess their roles in advancing social development nationwide.

According to her, while significant groundwork had been laid since the launch of the initiative, the programmes must now mature and begin to yield visible outcomes.

“It’s like giving birth to a baby — the teething stage and learning how to walk. After a while, the baby is supposed to walk unaided, and that is what I want to see,” she said.

Tinubu explained that the purpose of the meeting was to allow the governors’ wives share the initiatives they were implementing in their states and how such programmes complement government efforts through humanitarian and social interventions.

She noted that both she and the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, had previously served as state First Ladies and understood the responsibilities associated with the role.

According to the First Lady, the title “First Lady” comes with expectations of leadership and social impact, urging the governors’ wives to justify the designation through independent and meaningful initiatives.

They wanted the title ‘First Lady of the state.’ Before, people would say the wife of the governor. But if you want that title, then we want to see you actually reach out and be independent in what you are doing,” she said.

Drawing from her experience as former First Lady of Lagos State, Tinubu encouraged them to design programmes that mentor young people and promote self-reliance.

She recalled introducing initiatives such as spelling competitions and leadership programmes for girls to keep pupils interested in public education during periods of infrastructure challenges.

The First Lady also urged the governors’ wives to address emerging social issues, including mentorship programmes targeted at young boys to reshape attitudes and encourage responsible behaviour.

Tinubu cited initiatives already underway in some states, including programmes focusing on the boy-child led by the current Lagos First Lady, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.

Child nutrition, she added, would remain a key priority for the Renewed Hope Initiative this year.

“It is sad that a nation as rich as ours is still talking about child malnutrition at this level. We are going to go at it aggressively and do the best we can to tackle it,” she said.

The First Lady also urged governors’ wives to promote women’s economic empowerment through agriculture, skills acquisition and small-scale enterprises tailored to local economic strengths.

She cited examples such as the development of an Adire production hub in Ekiti State and opportunities in cassava processing and fish production in other states.

Tinubu explained that such community-driven initiatives could help women generate income while boosting local economies.

She added that the quarterly meetings would provide a platform for sharing success stories and best practices that could be replicated across states.

We want to hear their stories — what they are doing in their states — so that we can tell people and encourage others to do more,” she said.

The Renewed Hope Initiative, launched by the First Lady, focuses on social investment programmes targeting women, youths and vulnerable groups, particularly in areas such as economic empowerment, education, health and food security.
