AGF Pulls Plug on Forgery Case Against Mike Ozekhome – Court Strikes Out Charges

In a significant development, the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (OAGF) has withdrawn the criminal forgery charge against prominent senior advocate Mike Ozekhome (SAN), prompting the FCT High Court in Maitama to strike out the case entirely.

The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), informed Justice Peter Kekemeke on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, that the AGF intends to conduct a comprehensive review of the matter and determine the most appropriate course forward.

Oyedepo, acting on instructions from AGF Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), applied to withdraw the three-count charge—originally filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC)—pursuant to Section 108 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015.

The defence team, led by Paul Erokoro (SAN), raised no objection to the application.

Justice Kekemeke granted the withdrawal and struck out the charge accordingly.

The case stems from allegations of forgery related to a London property dispute involving the late General Jeremiah Useni. The ICPC had filed the three-count charge on January 16, 2026.

On January 29, Oyedepo had announced the AGF’s takeover of the prosecution from the ICPC under Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution, citing the need for interagency collaboration in the anti-corruption fight.

He emphasized that the AGF’s intervention aimed to uphold the highest standards of effectiveness, efficiency, diligence, and due process.

“The AGF was guided by public interest to instill confidence, fairness, and competence in the criminal justice system,” Oyedepo told the court earlier.

He further assured that the defendant’s rights would be protected, with no injustice to any party.

The AGF had requested an adjournment to retrieve and review the case file from the ICPC before deciding on next steps.

With the withdrawal now granted and the charge struck out, the matter returns to the AGF’s office for a holistic evaluation.

This move underscores the federal government’s commitment to rigorous oversight in high-profile corruption prosecutions, even as it leaves the door open for potential future action based on the review. Read More

Tinubu to Governors: Prioritise the Poor, Build Inclusive Policies as Ramadan Meets Lent

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged governors across Nigeria to implement policies that prioritise the poor and vulnerable, stressing the need for compassion, tolerance and inclusive development.

The President made the call on Monday while hosting governors for the breaking of an interfaith fast at the Presidential Villa, marking the rare coincidence of Ramadan and Lent.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said the overlapping seasons of abstinence and reflection highlight Nigerians’ shared humanity and offer leaders a moment to reassess their impact on citizens’ lives.

A great Ramadan that coincides with that of the Christian faith, Lent… discipline, sacrifice, faith, resilience, and strong determination to continue to bridge together, pray together, and love one another,” Tinubu said.

The President challenged governors to deepen efforts to reduce poverty and expand opportunities for young people.

Tolerate everybody and build structures in this period of faith, unity, harmony and sacrifice… Let the young ones breathe too,” he urged.

Tinubu also used the occasion to commend several governors for their efforts. He welcomed Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and praised Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, for extending Ramadan outreach to both Muslims and Christians.

I saw the layout of the Ramadan outreach for both Christians and Muslims. That is a very good spirit,” he said.

The President also acknowledged Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, describing him as a hardworking “farmer,” and encouraged broader grassroots development across local governments.

Reaffirming his administration’s security agenda, Tinubu reiterated his commitment to establishing state police to tackle insecurity nationwide.

Security is the foundation of prosperity… We will establish state police to curb insecurity. This is not about politics. It is about practicality,” he declared.

He expressed optimism about the economy, saying Nigeria is “out of the dark tunnel of uncertainty,” and called for renewed efforts to assist the unemployed and vulnerable.

Development must not recognise religion. Compassion must not recognise tribe. Opportunity must not recognise status,” the President said, pledging that promises made to Nigerians would not be postponed.

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who represented the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, described the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent as divinely ordained.

This convergence is a special situation created by God to remind us Christians and Muslims not to allow religious and ethnic differences to guide our political activities,” Uzodimma said.

He commended the President for fostering national unity and strengthening collaboration with state governors despite political differences.

The interfaith gathering formed part of activities marking the concurrent observance of Ramadan and Lent, underscoring calls for unity, shared sacrifice and inclusive governance.

Oshiomhole Hails Wike for Standing by Him After APC Ouster

0

Former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has publicly commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for standing by him during what he described as a period of political abandonment following his removal as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oshiomhole made the disclosure in Benin City while handing over 54 construction equipment to the 18 local government areas of Edo State, reflecting on the events that trailed his exit from the party’s top leadership position.

The senator representing Edo North recounted how many party loyalists distanced themselves from him after his dismissal.
“After I was dismissed as APC National Chairman, I became lonely, abandoned by my own party. People were afraid to visit me then because it could be termed anti-party,” he said.

According to Oshiomhole, Wike defied the political climate and reached out to him when others kept their distance. He revealed that the FCT Minister invited him to Port Harcourt to commission a flyover project and subsequently conferred on him the highest honour of Rivers State.

But I got a call from a rare Nigerian who identifies with those who are lonely,” Oshiomhole stated, adding that although Wike once joked about having “celebrated” his political misfortune, the minister ultimately restored his hope during the trying period.

So, if I dey do yanga, it’s because I have a minister that can identify with me when I was removed from my job,” he quipped.

Oshiomhole also applauded Wike’s leadership style and political performance, particularly during the recent FCT local government elections, where he said the minister demonstrated strategic strength despite political competition.

Describing Wike as a trailblazer from the South-South geopolitical zone, Oshiomhole said he has “refined and redefined the concept of development” in Abuja.

He further praised the cordial relationship between Wike and Edo State leaders, commending the state governor for sustaining the alliance.

Political observers say the public show of solidarity underscores shifting alliances and enduring personal loyalties within Nigeria’s dynamic political landscape.

Obi Urges JAMB to Act Fast as UTME Registration Chaos Mounts Nationwide

0

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has called on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to urgently resolve mounting challenges confronting candidates registering for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Obi raised the alarm after witnessing large crowds and confusion at JAMB’s office in Amawbia, Anambra State, noting that similar reports of overcrowding and delays have surfaced in other parts of the country.

The former governor attributed the disruption to the recent proscription of several computer-based test (CBT) centres over alleged infractions. While acknowledging that regulatory authorities may have valid reasons to sanction erring centres, he stressed the need for a balanced and humane approach to avoid punishing innocent candidates.

Obi suggested that centres currently under investigation could be allowed to provide limited services under strict supervision to prevent further violations.

He also proposed that JAMB temporarily reactivate previously approved centres under close monitoring to ease pressure on state offices, especially as the registration deadline draws near.

“With the registration deadline approaching, many candidates some travelling long distances and even spending nights away from home risk missing the examination through no fault of their own,” Obi said.

He warned that systemic lapses must not derail the academic future of young Nigerians.
“Students cannot be made to suffer the failings of a system to which we have all, in one way or another, contributed.

Swift and compassionate intervention should be made to ensure that no young person’s academic future is jeopardised by avoidable administrative bottlenecks,” he added.

Education stakeholders are now watching closely to see how JAMB will respond as pressure mounts to streamline the registration process nationwide.

Fake Air Force Officer Arrested in Lagos After Defrauding Traders Across Major Markets

0

A 27-year-old man posing as a soldier has been arrested in Lagos for allegedly defrauding residents and traders of cash and goods while impersonating a member of the Nigerian Air Force.

The suspect, Kolawole Yusuf, was handed over to the police by the Provost Unit of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre in Oshodi on Monday, where several victims reportedly identified him.

He had earlier been arrested on February 18 by officers from Ladipo Police Station, who rescued him from an angry mob at Bakassi Line after he was caught allegedly attempting another scam.

At the time of his arrest, Yusuf was dressed in full Nigerian Air Force special forces uniform and claimed he was an airman attached to the O55 NAF Base in Victoria Island. This prompted the police to contact military authorities for verification and disciplinary action.

However, investigations by military police later revealed he was an impostor who had been using the uniform and related accessories to intimidate civilians and commit fraud.

Public Relations Officer of the centre, Commander Patricia Ochei, told reporters that complaints from traders in Ladipo triggered the investigation.

She said the suspect was known for obtaining money and goods using fake bank alerts and for harassing traders while posing as a security operative.

Preliminary findings indicated he had allegedly defrauded victims across several busy Lagos commercial hubs, including Arena Market, Ladipo, Mushin, Aswani and Alaba International Market.

Among reported cases, Yusuf allegedly collected:
• A television set valued at over N300,000 from a dealer
• Shock absorbers worth about N145,000 from another trader
• Cash from multiple Point-of-Sale operators using fake transfer alerts

Ochei added that he had already been on the watch list of both the police and the Air Force over similar fraud allegations before his latest arrest.

Military sources suggested the suspect may be part of a wider syndicate that impersonates members of the armed forces to carry out criminal activities, noting that some accomplices had also been apprehended.

Victims present at the centre said he often blamed network issues when payments failed to reflect and sometimes left his phone number, promising the money would appear later only to stop responding to calls and messages.

Yusuf admitted during questioning that he was not a military personnel. He claimed he purchased the uniform for N30,000 from a man identified as “Sergeant Samuel” at Iyana-Ipaja.

According to him, he was first recruited to wear the uniform for guard duties at a party and later continued using it to avoid harassment while operating his commercial motorcycle.

He insisted that network failures were responsible for victims not receiving payments and claimed he had begun refunding some of them a claim witnesses at the centre disputed.

Authorities have urged anyone who may have been defrauded by the suspect to report to the nearest police station, noting that he will be returned to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

“The preservation of law and order within the political space is a collective responsibility of all political actors and their supporters.”

Portable Rejects ₦50m Boxing Offer, Demands ₦300m Luxury Car to Fight Carter Efe

Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has rejected a ₦50 million offer to face popular streamer Carter Efe in a proposed celebrity boxing match, describing the sum as inadequate for stepping into the ring.

The proposal was floated by music executive Soso Soberekon during a livestream session and was immediately accepted by Carter Efe, who urged that the bout be fixed without delay.

Portable, however, raised the bar, demanding not just the ₦50 million purse but also a luxury car valued at ₦300 million, bringing his total conditions to ₦350 million before he would agree to fight.

The demand has sparked mixed reactions online, with fans debating whether the proposed celebrity bout will materialise or collapse over the escalating price tag.

Ado-Odo/Ota APC Elders Move to Reconcile with Tunji Akinosi After Congress Crisis

By Lukman OMIKUNLE

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency has launched a reconciliation move following tensions that trailed the recently concluded Local Government Party Congress.

At an emergency meeting held on February 23, 2026, party elders deliberated on developments surrounding the congress and the unfortunate incident involving Hon. Tunji Akinosi at the Council Secretariat.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the leaders expressed solidarity with Akinosi and condemned the incident in strong terms.

“The leadership unequivocally condemns the act in its entirety and describes it as regrettable and inconsistent with the principles of our great party,” the statement read.

The leaders extended what they described as a sincere appeal to Hon. Akinosi for understanding and continued cooperation as elders work toward resolving all outstanding issues arising from the congress.

“In the spirit of unity and brotherhood that defines the APC family, the leadership collectively extends a sincere appeal to Hon. Tunji Akinosi for understanding and continued cooperation,” they stated.

They acknowledged that disagreements are part of democratic processes but warned against actions capable of creating deeper divisions within the party.

“We acknowledge that intra-party differences are natural in a vibrant democracy; however, such differences must be resolved through dialogue, internal mechanisms, and mutual respect — never through confrontation.”

According to the statement, a structured reconciliation process has already commenced, with apex leaders engaging relevant stakeholders to rebuild trust and strengthen cohesion across the Ado-Odo/Ota APC structure.

“Our collective objective remains clear: to preserve party unity and position the APC for continued electoral success and service to our people.”

The leadership also appreciated Akinosi’s willingness to allow party elders to handle the matter internally.

“The leadership also appreciates Hon. Akinosi’s willingness to allow the intervention of apex members to address the matter internally as a party affair, thereby avoiding unnecessary escalation.”

Party members and supporters were urged to remain peaceful and committed to unity.

“The APC in Ado-Odo/Ota is one family. Through dialogue, maturity, and unity of purpose, we shall overcome our differences and emerge stronger.”

The statement was jointly signed by prominent party figures including Sen. Akin Odunsi, Chief Samuel Ayedogbon, Alhaji Soji Olusesi, Chief Jide Ojuko, Hon. Layiwola Taiwo, Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele, Hon. Muse Lamidi, Hon. Kunle Salako and Hon. Sheriff Yusuf.

Political observers note that the reconciliation move could play a critical role in stabilizing the party ahead of future political contests in Ogun State. Read More
