Dangote Cuts PMS Price by N25 per Litre

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit by N25 per litre, lowering its ex-depot/gantry rate from N799 to N774 per litre.

The refinery communicated the price adjustment to marketers on Tuesday, confirming that the new rate takes immediate effect nationwide.

“This is to notify you of a change in our PMS gantry price from N799 per litre to N774 per litre,” noted the refinery.

The adjustment further strengthens the competitiveness of locally refined products, as the current landing price of imported PMS from Lome stands at about N793 per litre, compared to Dangote Refinery’s ex depot/gantry price of N774 per litre. Read More

Tinubu Has Strengthened Federalism, Boosted State Finances — Bagudu

0

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, on Tuesday declared that President Bola Tinubu has strengthened Nigeria’s federal structure through bold economic reforms that have improved the fiscal position of states and local governments.

Bagudu made the remarks at the National Economic Council (NEC) Conference in Abuja, where he said the administration’s policy decisions have not only increased revenue allocations to subnational governments but also deepened cooperation across all tiers of government.

“President Tinubu has strengthened our federalism,” the minister said, adding that the reforms have enabled states to access more funds to deliver critical infrastructure and social services to their people.

‘A More United Federation’
According to Bagudu, Tinubu’s active support for the NEC — which comprises the 36 state governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory — reflects his commitment to cooperative federalism.

He noted that the president’s bipartisan approach to governance has reduced friction between the federal and state governments.

“In the NEC, governors have been given opportunities to contribute to most of the reform measures, and commendably, most of them — regardless of party — believe the president is pursuing what our country needs and fully support the federal government,” Bagudu said.

He added that some governors had privately acknowledged strong alignment with the administration’s direction.

States’ Finances Improving
Highlighting the impact of the reforms, Bagudu said the fiscal condition of states and local governments has significantly improved, stressing that the federal government bore the initial burden of implementing the difficult but necessary policy changes.

He argued that Tinubu’s reform agenda reflects a belief that true federalism lies in empowering the lowest levels of government, which are closest to the people.

As part of this approach, Bagudu pointed to the president’s approval of the Renewed Hope Ward-Based Development Programme, designed to identify and stimulate economic activities across Nigeria’s 8,809 wards.

Global Recognition
The minister also cited growing international recognition of Nigeria’s economic reforms.
“Just last week, a visiting World Bank delegation led by the Managing Director, Operations, told the world that Nigeria’s reforms have become a global benchmark,” he said.

He further referenced a recent International Monetary Fund (IMF) report listing Nigeria among the 10 leading countries contributing most to global economic growth within the review period.

Bagudu said the endorsements add to positive assessments from other international organisations and private sector stakeholders.

NEC Conference Focus
The NEC Conference, themed “Delivering Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development: The Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026–2030,” was chaired by Vice-President Kashim Shettima in his capacity as Chairman of the council.

The event marked only the second NEC conference held in the past decade and focused on strategies to drive inclusive economic growth and sustainable national development.

We Were Never Friends’ — El-Rufai Distances Self from Tinubu, Slams Governance Style

0

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has declared that he never had a personal or political relationship with President Bola Tinubu, insisting their paths were “parallel lines that will never meet.”

El-Rufai, now a leading figure in the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the remarks during a television interview, dismissing claims that he and the President were once allies or friends.

“I think it’s important to make this clarification. There is an assumption that I was ever Tinubu’s friend. I was not. We never got along with Tinubu. We never had a personal relationship,” he said.

‘Support Was Based on Principle, Not Loyalty’
The former governor explained that his support for Tinubu’s 2023 presidential bid was rooted in party principles rather than personal loyalty.

According to him, he was approached by Islamic stakeholders from the South-West who urged him to back the emergence of a South-West Muslim presidential candidate under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“For me, Tinubu was initially just an aspirant of the party,” he stated, adding that the APC had an internal understanding that power would rotate to the South after the eight-year tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“As one of the founders of the APC, I knew that we had an understanding with the South, specifically the South-West, that after eight years of Buhari, power would go to the South.

It was a matter of principle. It wasn’t about Tinubu,” El-Rufai said.

He stressed that once Tinubu emerged as the APC’s candidate, he threw his weight behind the campaign in line with his long-standing political philosophy.

“It is a principle of mine that I fight for the candidate of my party in every election to win, whether I like the candidate or not.

Tinubu emerged as the candidate, and I gave everything to ensure that he won.”

‘We Couldn’t Find Equilibrium’
However, El-Rufai said fundamental differences in values and governance philosophy ultimately created an unbridgeable divide between them.

“We didn’t fall out. We just could not find areas of agreement.

There was no equilibrium. We couldn’t agree,” he explained.

The former governor was particularly critical of what he described as the governing style of the Tinubu administration, arguing that it clashes with his own understanding of public service.

“I am in government for delivery, for results and performance.

Public service is not about making money for yourself, it’s not about stealing, it’s not about appointing your cronies or your tribesmen,” he said.

El-Rufai also revealed that even if his reported nomination for a ministerial position had been successful, he would not have remained in the administration.

“Even if the offer that Tinubu made to me to be a minister had gone through, I would have left the government long ago.

The philosophy of this government is contrary to everything I have been taught as a Muslim, as a northerner, and as a Nigerian,” he declared.

He concluded by stating that the sharp contrast in values between himself and the President made any lasting political alignment impossible.

“These guys didn’t come to govern, they came to enrich themselves, pure and simple. We are different people.

So it should not surprise anybody that knows me and knows Tinubu to see that we are parallel lines that will never meet.”

Lagos Announces Four-Week Partial Closure of Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway for Repairs

0

The Lagos State Government has announced a four-week partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway to allow for rehabilitation works by the Federal Ministry of Works.

The closure will take effect from Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and run through Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the repair works will cover the stretch from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate, impacting both inbound and outbound lanes.

Two-Phase Traffic Diversion Plan
According to the statement, the rehabilitation will be carried out in two phases to minimise disruption.

Phase One, affecting Abeokuta-bound traffic, will run from February 11 to March 4, 2026.

The affected section spans from U-Turn Bus Stop inward to Sango Tollgate.

During this phase, motorists travelling from Lagos/Abule-Egba toward Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate will be diverted to one half of the carriageway, approximately 20 metres away from the active construction zone.

Rehabilitation will be executed one lane at a time, with traffic redirected to completed sections as work progresses.

Motorists heading toward Lagos will enjoy uninterrupted movement during this period.

Phase Two will commence on March 4 and conclude on March 11, 2026.

It will affect Lagos-bound traffic between Obadeyi Bus Stop and Ekoro Junction.

Traffic from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate toward Lagos/Abule-Egba will similarly be diverted through one half of the road, about 20 metres from the work area.

As in Phase One, repairs will be conducted in halves, with traffic moved to rehabilitated sections upon completion.

During this second phase, Abeokuta-bound motorists will maintain free flow of traffic.

Advisory to Motorists
Osiyemi assured road users that adequate traffic management measures would be deployed throughout the duration of the project.

He urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance, comply with traffic signage, and cooperate with traffic officials to ease movement along the corridor.

The state government appealed for patience and understanding, emphasising that the repairs are essential to improving road safety and driving conditions along one of Lagos’ busiest transport routes.

Turaki-Led PDP Faction Rejects Senate’s Stand on Electronic Transmission of Results

0

The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the Senate’s revised position on the transmission of election results, accusing lawmakers of attempting to undermine electoral reforms through what it described as a “backdoor” approach.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the faction said the addendum introduced by the Senate—allowing manual transmission where technology fails—was a disguised attempt to achieve the same objective as its earlier rejection of real-time electronic transmission.

According to the statement, manual transmission is already adequately provided for under the Electoral Act, adding that the current push for electronic transmission is aimed at strengthening the integrity of elections by preventing the manipulation of results during collation.

“We have taken note of the outcome of the Senate’s reconsideration of its earlier position on the real-time electronic transmission of election results, wherein an addendum was introduced to permit manual transmission where technology is said to fail,” the statement said.

“We hold the firm view that this addendum is nothing more than a backdoor attempt to achieve the same objective as the earlier outright rejection, while pretending to align with the wishes of the Nigerian people.”

The faction argued that it was illogical to suggest that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), which functions effectively for voter accreditation throughout elections, would suddenly become unreliable for transmitting results from the same process.

It claimed the caveat reflected what it described as the fear of senators opposed to electronic transmission, singling out Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom it alleged remained affected by his 2019 electoral loss following the deployment of technology to curb over-voting.

The statement urged members of the National Assembly Conference Committee to adopt the version of the Electoral Amendment Bill passed by the House of Representatives as the harmonised position, if they were truly committed to delivering credible elections in 2027.

It called on lawmakers to rise above partisan interests and focus on safeguarding democracy and future generations.

The PDP faction also appealed to Nigerians to remain steadfast in their demand for real-time electronic transmission of election results, warning against compromising democratic gains.

“This is no time for excuses. This hard-won democracy is far too valuable to be left in the hands of politicians alone,” the statement added.

Dangote Explores Investment Opportunities in Burundi, Meets with President

Dangote Explores Investment Opportunities in Burundi, Meets with President

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, paid a brief but strategically significant visit to Burundi, where he explored new investment opportunities and cemented plans to expand the Dangote Group’s presence across the continent.

The visit included high‑level talks with President Evariste Ndayishimiye at the presidential palace.

Accompanied by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dangote described the mission as both diplomatic and economic in scope. He revealed that two dedicated technical teams—one representing Burundi and the other the Dangote Group—have been constituted to identify priority sectors and develop viable investment projects.

“Our focus really is investing heavily in the African continent, not anywhere else, and so Burundi is part and parcel of that African region,” Dangote stated after the meeting. He pointed to strong potential in solid minerals, power generation, agriculture, cement production, and infrastructure development, emphasising that the goal is to build a mutually beneficial partnership that drives shared prosperity.

According to official sources, discussions centered on strategic cooperation in infrastructure, logistics, industrialization, and energy—areas the Burundian government considers essential to its long-term economic transformation. The engagement aligns with Burundi’s broader ambition to attract large-scale private sector investment and strengthen ties with leading African industrial players.

Observers widely view the engagement as a landmark moment—one that positions Burundi as a credible destination for African mega‑investors and integrates the country more firmly into Dangote’s continental expansion strategy. Read More

Two Burnt to Death in Lagos Minibus Crash, LASTMA Rescues Eight

0

Two persons were burnt to death on Tuesday in a road accident involving a commercial minibus along the Okota–Mile 2 corridor of Lagos State, while operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) rescued eight injured passengers.

The accident occurred at the Balogun inward axis of Okota, Isolo, and involved a yellow commercial minibus, popularly known as Faka, with registration number SMK 823 YK.

In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, the agency said preliminary investigations revealed that the crash was triggered by an unidentified private vehicle that reversed on the main carriageway.

According to the statement, the sudden reversal forced the commercial bus, which was travelling at considerable speed, to apply abrupt brakes, causing it to lose control, somersault several times and burst into flames while conveying nine passengers, including the driver.

LASTMA disclosed that further investigations showed the driver was carrying a five-litre container of petrol inside the vehicle, which ignited immediately after the crash and led to a severe fire outbreak.

“The driver and a female passenger seated in front were burnt beyond recognition,” the statement said.

The agency noted that its operatives, who were on routine traffic surveillance in the area, responded swiftly and rescued eight passengers from the wreckage before the fire intensified.

The injured victims were evacuated to a nearby hospital with the assistance of a public-spirited motorist, it added.

LASTMA said the accident scene was secured in collaboration with the Divisional Traffic Officer of Ilasa Police Division, while officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) extinguished the fire and supported rescue efforts.

Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa, expressed sadness and commiserated with the families of the deceased.

Giwa warned both private and commercial motorists against dangerous driving practices, particularly reversing on highways, stressing that such actions pose serious risks and often lead to avoidable loss of lives.

Wike Says Tinubu’s Intervention Brings Rivers Crisis Close to Resolution

0

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed strong optimism that the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State is nearing a lasting resolution, following what he described as a decisive intervention by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Wike spoke to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday after inspecting several ongoing infrastructure projects in the FCT.

He highlighted President Tinubu’s role as a unifying national figure, noting that his leadership was instrumental in easing tensions between the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State.

“I believe that by the grace of God, this will be the last time the president will be bothered with this issue and that this will be the last time the Rivers people will need to hear this kind of discord,” Wike said.

Emphasising the authority of presidential intervention, the FCT minister described Tinubu’s counsel as binding on all parties involved.

“The president is the father of the nation, and when a father speaks, his children must listen and do the needful to ensure peace and progress,” he added.

Wike expressed confidence that the Rivers State House of Assembly and Governor Siminalayi Fubara would act responsibly in line with the agreement reached during the peace talks.

“The House of Assembly will do what they are supposed to do, and I am confident that the governor will also carry out the acts required of him to ensure this peace is sustainable,” he said.

He stressed that political stability and development must now take precedence over disagreements in the state.

“The most important thing is for Rivers State to move forward, and we are grateful to Mr President for his tireless commitment to ensuring that we reach this understanding,” Wike noted.

The political crisis escalated after the Rivers State House of Assembly, widely perceived as loyal to Wike, initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.

In a bid to restore calm, President Tinubu on Monday summoned Wike and Fubara to the Presidential Villa, where he personally mediated between the parties.

Princess Shyngle Sparks Backlash with Comments on Women, Relationships and Financial Support

0

Gambian actress and social media personality, Princess Shyngle, has sparked widespread conversation online after advising women in marriages or relationships to refrain from asking for financial assistance.

Speaking in a video shared on her Instagram page, Shyngle argued that women in committed relationships should not be experiencing financial hardship, insisting that their partners are expected to provide for them.

The actress expressed frustration over receiving direct messages from women seeking money, noting that many of those reaching out are either married or currently in relationships.

“What are your partners doing for you?” she asked, questioning why women with partners would turn to others for financial support.

Shyngle contrasted their situation with that of single women, whom she described as facing greater challenges due to the absence of emotional and financial support from a partner.

According to her, “Struggling is meant for single women only. If you are married, engaged, or have a boyfriend you claim, that word ‘struggling’ should not exist in your vocabulary.”

She further criticised married women and those in relationships for allegedly seeking financial help from single women, calling the behaviour contradictory.

“You carry marriage and man for head like World Cup and now you are in a single girl’s DM begging for money,” she said.

Shyngle added that single women often work hard daily without anyone to rely on, emphasising that they navigate life independently.

“We are single, we are struggling, grinding every day. Some of us don’t have a man to turn to,” she stated.

She concluded by urging women with partners to stop sending her messages requesting financial assistance, asking them to “stay in their lane.”

The comments have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users supporting her views while others criticised her remarks as insensitive and dismissive of the realities faced by women in different relationships.
