Nigeria Police Force Dominates 6th OSOM Games with Overwhelming Medal Haul

Abuja, May 1, 2025 — The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has emerged as the overall champion of the 6th edition of the One Service One Medal (OSOM) Games, held in Abuja from April 23 to 29, 2025.

Team Police delivered an outstanding performance, finishing with a total of 114 medals — 42 Gold, 38 Silver, and 34 Bronze.

The OSOM Games, organized by the National Sports Commission, is designed to enhance Nigeria’s Olympic medal prospects by promoting sporting excellence within the country’s security agencies. This year’s event featured 15 sporting disciplines and saw participation from 12 different security and paramilitary agencies across the country.

Leading the Police contingent was Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Osifo T. Emefile, the Force Director of Sports.

One of the standout performers of the competition was Police swimmer Corporal Oka Dorcas Eworo, who claimed 9 Gold and 1 Silver medal, earning her the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Games.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, lauded the team’s performance and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to sports development. “We are proud of our athletes’ accomplishments and will continue to support sports as a means of unity, development, and national pride,” he stated.

The victory at the OSOM Games adds to the rich sporting legacy of the Nigeria Police Force, which has produced national and international sports icons such as DCP Chioma Ajunwa-Okpara (Rtd.), late SP Sunday Bada, and boxing champion Samuel Peters. The current generation of elite Police athletes includes Corporal Juliet Chukwu, Corporal Collins Obi, Corporal Yetunde Abbey, and Corporal Nathaniel Ezekiel.
