Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has declared that there is no credible challenger to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the President’s economic reforms and infrastructure drive have strengthened support for his second-term bid across the country.

Oyebanji made the remarks on Wednesday during the launch of the Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA 2.0) held at Eagle Hall in Ado-Ekiti.

The event attracted prominent political figures including Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, former Governor Segun Oni, National Chairman of SWAGA and Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, as well as the Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority, Oyetunde Ojo.

Addressing party supporters and members of the group from across the Southwest, the governor praised Tinubu’s leadership style, describing the President as a prepared and courageous leader whose policies have repositioned Nigeria’s economy.

According to Oyebanji, Tinubu’s reforms have improved federal allocations to states, enabling sub-national governments to embark on critical infrastructure projects.

He noted that Ekiti State had significantly benefited from the administration, stressing that no previous president had been as supportive of the state as Tinubu.

“No president has been this good to us in Ekiti,” Oyebanji said, while urging SWAGA leaders to convey the state’s appreciation to the President.

The governor also expressed confidence in his chances in the forthcoming June 20 governorship election in Ekiti, describing the exercise as “a celebration of democracy.”

He maintained that while there are individuals contesting against him, they do not constitute a formidable opposition.

“We have opponents, but we don’t have opposition,” he declared.

Oyebanji added that the Ekiti governorship poll would send a strong political message ahead of the Osun governorship election and the 2027 presidential race, demonstrating that Tinubu enjoys strong support in his home region.

He argued that a convincing victory in Ekiti would further strengthen the APC’s momentum in the Southwest and boost Tinubu’s re-election prospects nationally.

Speaking at the event, SWAGA National Chairman, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, said the group’s visit was aimed at mobilising support for both Oyebanji’s re-election campaign and President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Adeyeye expressed confidence that the governor would secure victory at the polls and disclosed that SWAGA would deploy its full political structure to help the APC achieve a landslide win across all electoral wards in the state.

He added that the group was targeting at least 500,000 votes for Oyebanji in the election.
