Popular Nollywood actor Stan Nze has expressed outrage over the theft of several mobile phones during the service of songs held in honour of late actor Alex Ekubo, revealing that more than five devices were reported missing at the event.

The actor made the disclosure on Thursday, hours after fellow actresses Bam Bam and Susan Peters publicly announced that their phones had been stolen during the emotional gathering.

Stan Nze, who served as the master of ceremonies at the event and was a close friend of the deceased actor, described the incident as deeply disturbing, especially given the solemn nature of the occasion.

Taking to Instagram, he questioned the values and conscience of Nigerians, asking how anyone could attend a memorial service where people were grieving and still choose to steal from mourners.

According to him, the incident highlights a broader societal problem that goes beyond governance and politics.

“We often blame the government for the country’s challenges, including insecurity and violence, and rightly so. But we also need to examine ourselves as individuals and ask what values we uphold,” he said.

The actor disclosed that at least five phones went missing during the service, noting that he personally knew two victims. He added that organisers were forced to temporarily shut the venue’s exit gates in an attempt to recover the stolen devices.

Reflecting on the incident, Nze argued that the nation’s challenges stem not only from leadership failures but also from the attitudes and behaviours of citizens.

He lamented what he described as a lack of kindness, empathy and integrity among many Nigerians, stressing that genuine change must begin at the individual level.

Calling on Nigerians to embrace honesty and compassion in their daily lives, the actor urged citizens to focus on doing the right thing within their communities, saying societal transformation starts with personal responsibility.

The service of songs, attended by family members, friends and several Nollywood stars, was organised to celebrate the life and legacy of Alex Ekubo ahead of his burial.
