Police Recover Gun, Arrest 10 After Violence Rocks APC Primary Election in Lagos

The Nigeria Police Force in Lagos has arrested 10 suspects linked to the violent disruption of the All Progressives Congress primary election held in the Egbe area of Alimosho Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Saturday at Onilewura Street along Liasu Road, where suspected hoodlums reportedly stormed the venue of the party primary and opened fire sporadically, causing panic among party members, electoral officials and residents.

The attack abruptly disrupted the voting process as participants fled the scene to avoid being caught in the violence.

Witnesses said several people sustained injuries during the unrest, while the suspects allegedly took advantage of the confusion to rob attendees and nearby residents of mobile phones and other valuables.

Confirming the incident, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Femi Adeoye, dismissed reports claiming that lives were lost during the attack, insisting that no fatalities were recorded.

According to him, the suspects have been taken into custody at the Ikotun Divisional Police Station as investigations continue into the incident.

Adeoye also disclosed that security operatives recovered a locally made firearm from the suspects during the operation.

“The hoodlums responsible for the disturbance have been arrested and taken to Ikotun Divisional Police Station. A gun was also recovered from them,” he stated.

The police spokesperson assured residents and supporters of the APC that a thorough investigation would be carried out to uncover those responsible for the violence and determine the motive behind the attack.

He added that anyone found culpable would face prosecution in line with the law.

Adeoye further appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
