Tinubu’s Vision Driving Nigeria’s Transformation, Critics Lack Direction — Lagos Deputy Governor

Lagos State Deputy Governor and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has said that many politicians seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election lack the vision required to drive meaningful national development.

Hamzat made the remarks on Sunday while receiving members of the APC State Chairmen’s Forum, who were on a tour of major infrastructure projects across Lagos State and later paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Ikoyi.

Reacting to criticisms of President Tinubu by some presidential aspirants, the deputy governor said many of those seeking the nation’s highest office do not possess the foresight needed to provide effective leadership.

“Many who want to lead do not have vision. We are grateful to have leaders with foresight. Many people could not see what Asiwaju Tinubu envisioned years ago,” Hamzat said.

He described President Tinubu as a leader who promotes inclusiveness and values ideas based on merit rather than status.

“Before the President, nobody is too small. Once your idea is better, it takes precedence, even above the President’s own. He gives room for ideas to grow,” he added.

Hamzat said Tinubu’s decision to establish specialised agencies during his time as Lagos governor reflected his belief that dedicated institutions deliver better results than conventional ministries.

According to him, several landmark projects currently transforming Lagos and Nigeria are products of Tinubu’s long-term planning and strategic leadership.

He listed the rail transport system, Lekki Free Trade Zone, Eko Atlantic City, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Badagry-Sokoto Highway as examples of projects conceived through visionary governance.

“These projects are not merely for transportation; they are meant to industrialise the country and connect Nigerians,” he said.

The deputy governor noted that improved transport infrastructure would boost trade, strengthen national integration and drive sustainable economic growth.

He also attributed Tinubu’s ability to attract both local and foreign investors to his development-focused vision and consistent economic policies.

Hamzat urged APC state chairmen to maintain strong working relationships with their governors to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.

“It is important that we continue to strengthen our party,” he said.

He further advised elected public office holders to appreciate the critical role political parties play in sustaining democracy, noting that Nigeria should learn from established democratic systems around the world.

“We must ensure that every elected official understands the importance and value of the party.

“As a nation, we must continue working towards building this country. We cannot afford to fail our people,” he said.

Hamzat also called on leaders at all levels of government to uphold transparency and accountability, reminding them that they would ultimately be answerable to God for their stewardship.
