Stay tuned as we continue to track the performances of these remarkable athletes, witnessing their pursuit of excellence and witnessing history being made in the world of football.

=9. Mauro Icardi – 31 goals

The rebirth of Icardi in Turkish football has been a joy to see. Following some rough years with PSG, the Argentine forward has looked sharper than ever since making his move to Galatasaray.

Unlike most of the other forwards on this list, all 31 of Icardi’s goals in 2023 have been at club level as he doesn’t get much of a look in at the Argentine national side these days. Regardless of that, he seems to be loving life in Turkey right now.

=9. Lautaro Martinez – 31 goals

A fellow Argentine is next up as Inter Milan’s Martinez has also smashed in 31 goals during the calendar year so far. The 26-year-old has been in fine form this year and he currently leads the race for the Serie A Golden Boot with 10 goals during this season alone.

=7. Victor Osimhen – 32 goals

There aren’t many forwards in world football who have more hype surrounding them than Osimhen does right now. The Napoli forward was instrumental in winning Serie A last season and he’s been just as prolific in the new campaign.

His long-term future is certainly up for debate as plenty of top European clubs have been tipped to battle for his signature in 2024. Considering he’s bagged 32 goals during this calendar year alone, it’s no wonder he’s so highly sought after.

=7. Hugo Cuypers – 32 goals

The Gent forward has been in the form of his life throughout 2023. Cuypers won the Belgian Pro League Golden Boot last season and we wouldn’t put it past him to win the award again given his prolific form of late.

6. Harry Kane – 33 goals

Kane’s departure from Tottenham this summer seemed inevitable and the England skipper hasn’t looked back since signing for Bayern Munich. The 30-year-old hasn’t taken any time to get going as he’s already scored nine goals for the German club.

Along with his prolific form at club level, Kane continues to deliver the goods on the international stage. Six of his 33 goals in 2023 were scored for England while the remaining 18 were scored for Tottenham in the second half of last season.

=4. Kylian Mbappe – 35 goals

With Lionel Messi and Neymar now out of the picture at PSG, Mbappe is very much the main man in the French capital these days. Arguably the best player in the world right now, the 24-year-old has scored 35 goals in 2023 along with providing plenty of assists too.

Mbappe has now won five consecutive Ligue 1 Golden Boots and he is currently on track to win his sixth. When he’s at his very best, not many defenders can lay a glove on him.

=4. German Cano – 35 goals

While the top goalscorers chart of 2023 is dominated by players currently playing in Europe, Fluminense forward Cano manages to break that trend.

The experienced 35-year-old has scored over 280 career goals and he isn’t showing any signs of slowing down soon. Cano has played a key role in Fluminense reaching the Copa Libertadores final which will be contested next month against Boca Juniors.

3. Barnabas Varga – 38 goals

Prior to last season, Varga had never scored more than 15 goals across an entire season. However, the Hungarian forward has been more prolific than ever throughout 2023.

Varga impressed with Paks last season and managed to earn a move to Hungarian champions Ferencvarosi TC on the back of his prolific spell. With 38 goals in 2023 so far, Verga is only a couple of goals away from the top spot.

2. Erling Haaland – 39 goals

The Norwegian robot broke all sorts of goalscoring records during his debut season in the Premier League and he also played an instrumental role in a historic treble-winning campaign.

From a goalscoring point of view, Haaland has virtually no weaknesses. The Man City forward has scored 39 goals and counting in 2023 so far, but he was recently edged off the top spot.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo – 40 goals

He might be playing out in Saudi Arabia these days, but the fact that a 38-year-old Ronaldo is currently leading the way for goals scored in 2023 is absolutely insane.

While most footballers are winding down in their late thirties, CR7 still seems hungrier than ever. He looks after his body better than anyone else in the sport and it’s no wonder he’s managed to stand the test of time. Sometimes you just need to take a step back and applaud greatness.
