By Lukman OMIKUNLE
The member representing Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Engr. Olatunji Akinosi Akanni, has recorded a range of legislative initiatives and constituency development interventions since assuming office in 2023, with his three-year scorecard featuring projects and programmes spanning education, healthcare, infrastructure, water supply, electricity, agriculture and economic empowerment.
In a review of his three years in the National Assembly, newsheadline247 examines the lawmaker’s reported achievements, which include approximately ₦700 million committed to the rehabilitation and upgrading of public schools in 2025, the installation of 1,230 solar-powered streetlights, road construction and rehabilitation, drainage projects, solar-powered boreholes and empowerment initiatives benefiting thousands of residents.
The scorecard also details Akinosi’s legislative efforts to attract major federal institutions to the constituency, including proposed bills seeking the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre and a Federal University of Technology in Atan-Ota, Ogun State. The medical centre bill has passed third reading, while the university bill has passed second reading in the House of Representatives.
According to Akinosi, in a recent statement reflecting on his tenure, his overriding objective since assuming office has been to translate the mandate entrusted to him by constituents into practical interventions that improve livelihoods, expand opportunities and accelerate development across Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency.
“It has been both an honour and a privilege to serve as your representative in the House of Representatives since 2023,” he said.
“From the very beginning, I made a commitment to provide purposeful leadership, effective representation, and tangible development that would positively impact the lives of our people across Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency.”
On the legislative front, newsheadline247 gathered that Akinosi had sponsored and supported bills targeting critical sectors, particularly healthcare, education, agriculture and institutional development.
Among the major proposals is the bill seeking to establish the Federal Medical Centre, Atan-Ota, which has passed third reading in the House of Representatives. The proposed medical facility is expected to expand access to specialist healthcare services and reduce the burden on residents who often have to travel considerable distances to access advanced medical treatment.
Another major legislative initiative is the proposed Federal University of Technology, Atan-Ota, which has passed second reading. The proposal is aimed at expanding access to tertiary education, strengthening technical and scientific training and creating additional opportunities for young people within Ogun State and neighbouring communities.
He also sponsored the bill seeking to establish the Tertiary Hospital Development Tax Fund, alongside his co-sponsorship of legislation relating to the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board and efforts towards establishing the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute in Ado-Odo, Ogun State.
These legislative initiatives, according to the lawmaker, reflect an approach to representation that combines constituency-level interventions with efforts to attract institutions capable of delivering long-term economic and social benefits.
Education also featured prominently in his account of activities, with approximately ₦700 million committed in 2025 to the renovation, rehabilitation and upgrading of public schools across the constituency.

The intervention was part of the constituency’s zonal intervention funding, with Akinosi identifying the condition of public schools as one of the priority areas requiring urgent attention.
The lawmaker said the investment was intended to improve learning environments, address infrastructure deficits and provide students with better facilities to support academic development.
“Education remains one of the most powerful tools for societal transformation,” he stated, stressing the importance of creating safe and conducive environments for teaching and learning.
Among the completed school projects listed in his scorecard are classroom blocks at Ansar-Ud-Deen Comprehensive High School, Lafenwa, Itele, Ota; Adie-Owe Community Secondary School, Ketu; Local Government Commercial Secondary School, Atan-Ota; and St. Stephen Secondary School, Ado-Odo.

The rehabilitation of a classroom block at Toyon High School, Ere, Ado-Odo, was also listed among the interventions.
Additional classroom construction and rehabilitation projects was executed at Male Comprehensive High School, Ilogbo Asowo High School, Ilogbo, Ota, Ansar-Ud-Deen High School, Lafenwa, Igbesa High School and Iyesi High School, Iyesi, Ota.
Beyond education, Akinosi identified infrastructure development as another major area of intervention, pointing to road construction, drainage improvements, streetlight installations and access to clean water as critical components of his constituency development agenda.
Among other projects include road and drainage projects include the construction of drainage and culverts along Iju-Ilogbo-Ota Road to address erosion challenges, the reconstruction of Aina-Ponoda Road in Igbesa and the construction of Aruwe Road.
The projects are expected to improve movement within affected communities, support commercial activities and address some of the infrastructure challenges confronting residents and businesses.
In the area of public lighting, the lawmaker had provided 1,230 solar-powered streetlights for strategic locations across Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency.
The initiative is designed to improve visibility along roads and public spaces, support community activities after dark and contribute to security through improved street illumination.
Access to potable water also featured prominently in the scorecard, with solar-powered boreholes provided in several communities.
The beneficiary locations include Goodluck Community, Gasline, Ijoko, Ota; Araromi/Ago-Igbira Community, Oruba, Ota; Egushi Ota Palace; Oke Oyinbo Community, Ado-Odo; Petedo Community, Agbara/Igbesa; and Ogono Community, Igbesa.
The borehole projects are aimed at reducing the difficulties residents face in accessing clean water, particularly in communities where reliable public water infrastructure remains a challenge.
On economic empowerment, Akinosi’s interventions had reached thousands of young people, women, artisans and small-scale business operators through financial assistance, vocational tools and other support programmes.
He disclosed that 4,000 youths and women had benefited from empowerment initiatives involving the distribution of artisan tools and cash support to improve their livelihoods and strengthen their capacity for self-employment.
The lawmaker also highlighted direct financial assistance to constituents, saying more than 2,000 residents had benefited from financial support ranging between ₦50,000 and ₦100,000, according to his account of the interventions.
His economic empowerment can be described as an important component of representation, particularly at a time when households and small businesses are grappling with rising operating costs and other economic pressures.
“Economic empowerment remains close to my heart because I understand the challenges faced by many families and small business owners,” he said.
In addition to financial support and vocational empowerment, Newsheadline247 understands that the federal lawmaker had facilitated nine federal employment opportunities for constituents across different government agencies.
The initiative, he said, was part of efforts to expand access to employment opportunities and enable more residents to benefit from opportunities within the federal public sector.
Agriculture also featured in the lawmaker’s intervention agenda, with the distribution of fertilisers to farmers across Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency.
The intervention is targeted at supporting agricultural production, reducing input challenges for farmers and strengthening food security, particularly among rural communities whose livelihoods depend substantially on farming.
The distribution of palliatives to residents affected by flooding has been part of his humanitarian interventions, noting the importance of supporting vulnerable households during emergencies and periods of economic difficulty.
Healthcare delivery formed another part of his constituency engagement, with free medical outreaches organised at the Olota Palace in Ota and Lusada Market, serving residents around Ado-Odo, Igbesa and neighbouring communities.
The medical outreaches provided an avenue for residents to access basic healthcare services and medical attention without the immediate financial burden associated with routine consultations.
Beyond physical projects and social interventions, the lawmaker said maintaining direct contact with constituents remained central to his approach to representation.
He identified town hall meetings, stakeholders’ engagements and community consultations as important channels through which residents could communicate their concerns, assess ongoing interventions and contribute to decisions affecting their communities.
“One of the principles that has guided my service is accessibility,” Akinosi said.
“I firmly believe that effective representation is built on listening, accountability, and partnership with the people.”
Akinosi, an engineer and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been in the House of Representatives since 2023, representing Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Ogun State, in the 10th National Assembly.
He previously served as Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture between 2008 and 2011 under the administration of former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel. He later served as Commissioner for Forestry under Governor Dapo Abiodun, following his appointment in 2019.
His experience in public administration and the private sector has informed his involvement in agriculture, infrastructure and other development-related initiatives.
With his current legislative and constituency engagements, Akinosi said he remained focused on consolidating existing interventions while pursuing additional projects capable of addressing the needs of communities across the federal constituency.
Expressing appreciation to residents for their support and confidence, he acknowledged that despite the projects and programmes recorded so far, significant development needs remained.
“As I reflect on the progress we have made together over the last three years, I remain grateful for your trust, support and encouragement,” he said.
The projects and legislative proposals outlined in the scorecard provide an overview of Akinosi’s stated priorities since 2023, with education, healthcare, infrastructure, economic empowerment and community development featuring prominently in his account of representation.
