Wema Bank has unveiled a range of new initiatives aimed at empowering Nigerian children through financial literacy, academic excellence, innovation and savings culture as part of its 2026 Children’s Day celebration.

The bank announced the initiatives during its Children’s Day Special Event held on Monday, May 25, 2026, where its One-Day MD/CEO, Chinmamanda Diamond Ozoakpata, introduced several rewards and educational programmes targeted at children and teenagers through the Royal Kiddies account and ALAT Xplore platform.

According to the bank, the initiatives are designed to boost confidence, leadership skills, financial awareness and innovation among young Nigerians while creating long-term value beyond the annual Children’s Day celebration.

One of the key highlights is the Birthday Cash Gift initiative for active Royal Kiddies account holders. Under the programme, children turning five years old will receive ₦5,000, while those turning 10 years old will receive ₦10,000 automatically as birthday gifts.

The bank disclosed that the initiative will run from May 2026 to May 2027, adding that eligible children who had already turned five or 10 before May 2026 would also receive their rewards this month.

Wema Bank also announced a ₦100,000 reward for the top 100 candidates in the National Common Entrance Examination. The reward scheme, which begins in June 2026, is open to students who emerge among the top performers in the examination and operate a Royal Kiddies account.

As part of efforts to deepen financial education among children, the bank launched “Money Adventures,” a financial literacy book created for children aged six years and above.

The book introduces children to basic concepts such as saving, money management and responsible financial habits in a simplified and engaging format. Copies of the book will be available to children with active or newly activated Royal Kiddies accounts.

In addition, the bank unveiled the Evolve School Tour STEM Challenge for secondary school students between ages 13 and 17. The programme will be implemented across six schools nationwide with existing STEM programmes and will feature hands-on competitions, technology-focused engagements and financial literacy sessions.

Participants in the challenge are also expected to compete for cash prizes at the end of the programme. Eligibility is limited to ALAT Xplore customers within the specified age bracket attending participating schools.

Wema Bank noted that over the past four years, it has continued to reposition Children’s Day as more than a ceremonial event through initiatives such as school tours, financial literacy campaigns and leadership development experiences for children.

The bank added that this year’s package represents its most extensive Children’s Day offering yet, combining year-long rewards, academic incentives, financial education resources and nationwide STEM engagement programmes aimed at creating lasting impact for young Nigerians.
