British-Nigerian heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, days after surviving a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of two of his closest friends and trainers, Lateef Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
In a joint statement issued by the Lagos and Ogun State governments, Joshua was discharged in the afternoon of Wednesday, December 31, 2025, after medical experts confirmed that he was clinically stable and fit to continue his recovery from home.
The statement noted that the former world heavyweight champion was “heavy-hearted and full of emotions” following the devastating loss of the two men, who formed an integral part of his professional and personal support system.
The fatal accident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, triggering widespread public concern and an outpouring of sympathy across Nigeria and beyond.
Earlier on Wednesday, Joshua, accompanied by his mother, visited a Lagos funeral home to pay his final respects as the remains of Ayodele and Ghami were being prepared for repatriation abroad for burial later that evening.
