Airtel Nigeria Suspends Airtime, Data Credit Services Amid Compliance Review

Telecommunications giant Airtel Nigeria has announced the temporary suspension of its airtime and data credit services, a move that affects prepaid customers who rely on borrowing options.

The suspended services previously enabled eligible users to access airtime or data on credit and repay during their next recharge cycle. Despite the change, the company assured subscribers that regular airtime and data purchases remain fully accessible through its existing platforms.

According to Airtel Nigeria, the decision is part of an internal adjustment process and is not expected to disrupt overall service delivery or network performance across the country.

Speaking on the development, the company’s Director of Marketing, Ismail Adeshina, described the move as a “necessary and responsible step” aimed at aligning operations with evolving regulatory and operational requirements.

He emphasized that Airtel Nigeria remains committed to maintaining high standards of compliance, transparency, and consumer protection, while continuing to innovate within Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
