Dr Adetutu Afolabi highlights six pillars of family life at Marriage and Money Summit 2.0, focusing on financial literacy, marriage, parenting and generational wealth
Love Is Not Enough: Afolabi Unveils 6 Pillars for Strong Marriages, Wealth Creation and Lasting Family Legacy
Building a successful marriage, raising financially responsible children and creating lasting generational wealth require more than love, according to Dr. Adetutu Afolabi, the Household Economist and family advocate, who is championing a holistic approach to marriage, household finances and sustainable family development.
Afolabi made the case at the Marriage and Money Summit 2.0, where experts examined six interconnected pillars of family life: love, marriage, money, sex, parenting and family law.
The summit focused on how financial intelligence, emotional intimacy, effective communication, intentional parenting and legal awareness can work together to build stable relationships and financially resilient households.
“A successful marriage is not built on love alone. It requires financial wisdom, emotional connection, healthy intimacy, intentional parenting and an understanding of the legal responsibilities that protect the family,” Afolabi said.
“When couples understand that every decision made within the home has emotional, financial and generational consequences, they begin to approach marriage as a collaborative partnership rather than an individual struggle.”
The event featured speakers including Pastor Bisi Adewale, Mr Akinropo Akinola, Mr Ifeanyi Maduka, Dr Victor Afolabi, Dr Pamela Udoka and Barrister Bisi Adebayo, who shared perspectives on strengthening relationships, managing household finances, building intimacy, raising children and protecting family interests.
Discussions covered financial literacy for couples, wealth creation, marital communication, sexual intimacy, parenting strategies, family asset protection and generational wealth planning.
As the Household Economist, Afolabi advocates treating the family as a critical economic unit, arguing that financial decisions, relationships and shared responsibilities within the home directly influence household prosperity.
She maintains that collaboration between couples can produce a multiplier effect, enabling partners to combine their strengths, resources and efforts to achieve more than they could independently.
The summit also challenged singles and engaged couples to discuss financial expectations, intimacy, parenting values and long-term aspirations before marriage, highlighting the importance of aligning priorities before making a lifelong commitment.
For established couples, the focus was on replacing financial secrecy, unhealthy competition and emotional disconnection with transparency, teamwork and a shared sense of purpose.
Afolabi also stressed the broader social implications of family stability, noting that stronger households can contribute to stronger communities. She described marriage education, household financial literacy and family empowerment as important components of national development.
The Marriage and Money Summit 2.0 reinforces her advocacy for financially informed households, emotionally healthy relationships and resilient families.
The central message from the summit was that while love may bring two people together, financial wisdom, intentional partnership and shared responsibility are essential to building a lasting family legacy.
