The Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State has inaugurated an Environmental Task Force Committee to enforce sanitation regulations, tackle indiscriminate waste disposal and strengthen environmental management across the council area.
The Executive Chairman of the local government, Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA, inaugurated the committee at the Council Secretariat Conference Hall as part of efforts to promote proper waste management and ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
The Chief Information and Public Relations Officer of the council, Alabi Sheriff, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
Speaking at the inauguration, Wasiu said the establishment of the task force was driven by the need to address indiscriminate refuse disposal along roadsides, regulate roadside trading and ensure that traders maintain proper sanitary conditions within and around their business premises.
He stressed that the Environmental Bye-Law was introduced in the interest and well-being of residents, insisting that its provisions do not contravene existing federal and state laws.
The chairman added that the task force would work in collaboration with relevant security agencies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. He disclosed that houses and shops that fail to meet prescribed sanitation standards could be closed in accordance with applicable laws.
The committee comprises the Supervisor for Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation as chairman, alongside the Director of Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation, the Local Government Health Officer and environmental officers.

Other members include representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the So-Safe Corps and two representatives of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria.
At the inauguration, Wasiu presented members of the committee with copies of the Environmental Bye-Law and its Code of Conduct to guide their activities and ensure compliance with established regulations.
Members of the task force will also wear branded reflective jackets bearing the inscription “Ado-Odo/Ota” during official assignments to aid identification and distinguish them while carrying out their duties.
Responding on behalf of the committee, its chairman, Mr Rasaq Oyekan, described the inauguration as a remarkable and long-overdue development.
He commended the Executive Chairman, the 8th Legislative Council and the local government management for their support in making the initiative a reality.
Oyekan urged members to demonstrate commitment and dedication to their responsibilities, expressing confidence that the task force would make Ado-Odo/Ota cleaner and position the council as a model for other local government areas in Ogun State.
The Secretary to the Local Government, Mr Ogabi Muhammed, who delivered the vote of thanks, urged the committee to combine enforcement with public enlightenment and sensitisation.
He noted that maintaining environmental sanitation requires the collective responsibility of government, traders and residents, stressing the importance of public cooperation in achieving a cleaner environment.
The inauguration marks another step in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government administration’s efforts to strengthen environmental enforcement, improve waste management and promote a cleaner, healthier and more orderly council area.
