The race for the 2026 Ballon d’Or has entered a decisive stage, with Harry Kane, Ousmane Dembele, Lamine Yamal, Rodri and Kylian Mbappe emerging among the leading contenders for football’s most prestigious individual prize.
Paris Saint-Germain further strengthened the case of its leading stars after beginning the new season with another European trophy, defeating Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for PSG before Brian Madjo restored parity for Villa before half-time. Desire Doue then struck in the second half to secure another trophy for the French giants.

Kylian Mbappe completes the current top five. The France and Real Madrid forward enjoyed a remarkable World Cup campaign, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists as France finished fourth.
Mbappe also became the first player to win the Golden Boot awards in LaLiga, the Champions League and the World Cup in the same calendar year, strengthening his individual statistics. However, the absence of major team trophies has weakened his overall case compared with some of his rivals.
The 2026 Ballon d’Or battle is therefore shaping up as one of the most open in years, with Kane’s statistics, PSG’s European dominance, Spain’s World Cup triumph and Mbappe’s extraordinary scoring record all providing compelling arguments.
