The Olota of Otta, Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege has announced the cancellation of the 2022 Odun Aje festival due to the global rising cases of the fourth wave of COVID-19.

The announcement was made on Tuesday via a press statement signed by the palace secretary, Prince Adeyemi Olusesi.

According to the statement, the Awori Kingdom monarch said, the cancellation of the 2022 edition becomes necessary to curb the spread of the virus in his domain.

Our most revered Royal Father, the Olofin Apesin Olode, Olota of Otta, Awori Kingdom, His Majesty, Professor Adeyemi Abdukabir Obalanlege (Lanlege Ekun II, Arole Iganmode), has approved the cancellation of the 2022 edition of the Annual Odun Aje Festival in Otta, Awori Kingdom.

The decision was made at the Olota-in-Council meeting held on Monday, 31st January, 2022.

The move was attributed to the prevalence of the COVID-19 pandemic, its likely upsurge with the Delta variant.

It was resolved that rather than exposing large number of people who will be converging in Otta for the unique “Odun Aje”, the cancellation of the 2022 edition becomes necessary.

Also, the good people of Otta (Natives and Residents) are advised to take the ongoing vaccination very important/serious in ensuring individuals safety.
